Police in Fukuoka have arrested a 19-year-old mother for vehicular manslaughter after she crashed her car, killing her 1-year-old son. Her 23-year-old husband was also injured in the crash.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 4 a.m. Friday in the city's Nishi Ward. NTV quoted police as saying the family of three were in a car being driven by the woman when it accelerated and slammed into a traffic light pole.
Police said the boy, who was sitting in a child seat in the back, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital. The woman's husband, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, suffered a fracture in his lower back, while the woman sustained only minor injuries.
Police quoted the woman, who is a student, as saying, "My husband had betrayed me. So I thought I would kill us all at one time, and so at that stoplight, I decided to slam on the accelerator and end our lives."
Police said the family was on their way to the husband's relatives after an argument.© Japan Today
