19-year-old mother charged with murder of newborn son

19 Comments

Gunma Prefectural Police have added another charge against a 19-year-old mother, already under arrest for abandoning the body of her newborn son, on suspicion of killing the infant.

According to police, the suspect, who cannot be named because she is a minor, works at a restaurant and lives in Maebashi, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said the suspect allegedly killed her infant son after giving birth at around midnight on March 25 by blocking his mouth and nose, inside the bathroom of her 21-year-old boyfriend’s home.

According to police reports, there were no visible injuries inflicted on the infant’s body.

Police quoted the mother as saying, “I didn’t want people to know that I gave birth to a baby.”

The suspect and her boyfriend, Omito Seki, who works at a bar, were arrested on April 2 on suspicion of abandoning the baby’s body in a plastic bag.

So sad and unecessary, have the baby and give it up for adoption, why be so self-centered and evil to take the baby's life.

Sterilization of both is called for, if they don't want to be parents , ensure that they won't ever be parents. That, in addition to any penalties for premeditated murder.

For a country that has plenty of access to contraceptive means and abortion at one end of the spectrum to child adoption and other services at the other end of that same spectrum, I just cannot understand how a mother-to-be can make such a decision that matches nothing sane on either end of the spectrum. What is wrong with some people?

At 19 she could have put the baby into a baby hatch, or put the child up for adoption, I am sure there are plenty of coples out there that would be only to willing to take this baby on as one of there own, what a waste of a precious life, how blinking selfish can you get?

In a perfect justice system she would get the rope! Despicable monster!

@Kyakusenbi_Arimasu

You wrote "Also, if she was a very big woman, people might not have noticed she was pregnant and carry a deformed child that would not survive. More info needed in reality here." Tha'ts all speculative, the bottom line is she chose to take her child life away. The system protects her because she is a minor therefore the media cannot print her name. WOW reality says we many never know the baby's name!!

I just censor myself this time, as I would surely have used improper and not publishable words.

How do they know it was not a still birth? Or that it stopped breathing on its own after being born? Not enough info here at all.

@Jind,

Abortions have been and are legal in Japan since 1949. Japanese doctors, as far as I'm aware, can provide the morning after pill (had to ask my wife) just in case mistakes happen.

But to go through an entire pregnancy, give birth, and then kill the child is not an accident or mistake. Its murder and by what she told the police about not wanting other people to know, is hard to comprehend. During the entire pregnancy, she never went to the doctor? Never told her boyfriend? No one noticed her body changing? Never asked for easier shifts at work due to stresses on her body? So many questions could be asked.

@ Toasted Heretic,

That's why I said "In my opinion".

You are right though about not knowing the mental state of the parents. But this statement,

Police quoted the mother as saying, “I didn’t want people to know that I gave birth to a baby.”, gives me a pretty good indication. She was more worried about what others might think than the life of the child.

I thought abortion was available in Japan.

Mistakes happen.

Terrible, as ever. But we don't know the full details. As ever.

If you kill a child on purpose, your life becomes forfeit.

Says who? You? The law?

It would be different if you are a woman who was raped and became pregnant or due to medical reasons. Other than that, I don't see any other acceptable reason to kill a child, especially after that child has been born. Children have no say about coming into this world and definitely cannot defend themselves. 19 years old and doesn't realize you could get pregnant by having unprotected sex? Stupid.

We don't know the details. Or how educated/aware the parents were Or what their mental state is/was.

RIP to the child. And anger towards a society that makes pregnancy such a stigma. And anger towards a state that doesn't provide enough sex education and mental health services.

This makes me sick. In my opinion, it should be a life for a life. If you kill a child on purpose, your life becomes forfeit. It would be different if you are a woman who was raped and became pregnant or due to medical reasons. Other than that, I don't see any other acceptable reason to kill a child, especially after that child has been born. Wow. What kind of selfish person snubs out a brand new life just because “I didn’t want people to know that I gave birth to a baby.”? Then why didn't you use a Johnny Raincoat to prevent pregnancy? Steps could've been taken to prevent this outcome!

That poor baby didn't ask for that or did nothing to deserve that kind of treatment! The baby just wanted love.

Sad. I cannot think of any words. RIP

We can't name her, despite killing a baby, she's a minor!

"on suspicion"
