Worker at care home for elderly arrested for assaulting 97-year-old resident

Police in Hadano, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Sunday arrested a 19-year-old man employed at a care home for elderly people on suspicion of assaulting a 97-year-old female resident.

According to police, the suspect, who cannot be named because he is a minor, beat the woman several times with his right fist while she was in her room at around 3:40 p.m. Friday, Sankei Shimbun reported. The woman suffered serious injuries to the left side of her upper body, including eight broken ribs. Doctors said she may be in hospital for at least three months.

After the suspect left, another employee noticed the woman in pain and called 119. The woman was taken to hospital where doctors contacted police.

Police said the suspect told them he beat the woman just after changing her diaper. He said he had been busy all day and had not had time for a break and he “just exploded.”

Severe shortage of workers.

Why is a care home employing an unqualified, inexperienced minor to care for vulnerable, elderly people. Why was a male providing care for a female, unsupervised.

Utterly disgusting.

"According to police, the suspect, who cannot be named because he is a minor"

So... hang on... he can vote, he can be hired and paid to work, he can beat the elderly, but heaven forbid we say his name?

in my world those with professions of responsibility to others e.g. care workers, teachers, medical workers an so forth, should be given doubly harsh sentences if found guilty.

So, take your frustrations out on a defenseless 98 year old lady. What a cowardly POS!

" he an 18 yr old minor, beat the 97 yr. old woman several times with his right fist and suffered serious injuries to the left side of her upper body, including eight broken ribs." the suspect told police he beat the woman just after changing her diaper. He said he had been busy all day and had not had time for a break and he “just exploded.”

This article speaks for itself no further comment warranted. mmm. mmm.mmm. tsk tsk tsk..

These are the days when I wish we could go back in time place this kid in the environment when police did the actual beat downs.

If he was that tired, he wouldn't have had the energy to beat her up.

If he can't put up with working conditions there, he should either demand more breaks, fewer hours or just leave.

Just don't take it out on people who are not in control of your predicament.

Beating up a helpless and frail old woman who looked to you for care and compassion is one of the lowest of lows. He needs some prison time.

Sick Sick Sick, shame on the system shame on the facility owners, shame on the staff, and shame on this 19 years violent thug.

His name should be released in light of what he did so other facilities can be aware of his actions. When a minor commits a criminal act at this level their names should be released, it is the norm in other countries and it should be NO different in Japan.

I pray for this 97 years old poor lady, I am sure her relatives would love to meet this boy and have a small talk.
