19-year-old arrested for rape after threatening victim on cell phone

Police on Thursday arrested a 19-year-old man for allegedly raping a high school student after first threatening her with a cell phone message. According to police, the suspect, who cannot be named because he is a minor, sent the girl a text message that said: "If you don't want to die, do what I say."

Police said the incident occurred on Oct 26. The accused reportedly stood behind the girl in an elevator in a Katsushika Ward apartment building and showed her the screen of his mobile phone displaying the threatening message. He then ordered her to his apartment where he allegedly raped her. There were other residents in the elevator and corridor at the time, but no one did anything because the girl was too frightened to call for help, police quoted her as saying.

The suspect has admitted to the charge. Police believe he may have assaulted other girls based on several reports of similar incidents in the area in October and November.

what a gutless sadist.Guys like this should just be chemically castrated and save further unhappiness and horrible outcomes.

I'll bet he's done this many times. This animal belongs to the same subhuman species as people like Ichihashi, and whoever killed that girl in Hiroshima, the Chiba university student and countless others. They are totally incapable of a normal relationship with women, narcisstic, ruled from time to time by their inner beast. I wonder how many others like him are out there, just waiting for something to trigger their rage.

[I'll bet he's done this many times.] -- No doubt because the vicitms don't put up a fight despite so many others being around. This situation can't fix itself. And yes now that this has been reported I'd expect the copy cats to start doing this.

It's galling that there were others in the elevator and the girl still didn't feel brave enough to say something. Japanese people can be so meek and submissive sometimes. Just once, I'd like to see a girl react to a message like that by turning around and kicking the guy in the balls.

This was a horrible thing to happen to her and the guy deserves life in prison (unfortunately he'll only get a few years). My question: she's in high school (old enough to reason and think things out) and yet she blindly followed him to his apartment with all these witnesses around? Do young Japanese get and guidance or training about how to deal with dangerous people/situations from their teachers or parents? I really wonder about the Japanese sometimes.

People with no social skills. Woman with unrealistic demands on men. Single men are desperate and lonely, and they take their frustrations out by abusing young girls. From old a#$ men to young teenagers. No wonder they have women only cars and apartments. Japanese women are running into the arms of foreign men or living in groups. The Japanese couples that are getting along are not having children as a lifestyle choice. I think Japan should just let it's population decrease and let economics take care of the rest. Weed out the crazies from the gene pool. They are obviously showing signs they are not mature enough to be a great nation.

" There were other residents in the elevator and corridor at the time, but no one did anything because the girl was too frightened to call for help, police quoted her as saying. "

I have no sympathy for the perp, but there is something wrong with the girl here, too. There were people in the elevator! How about just reading the message with a loud voice and asking what does it mean?

Bizarre.

I think we all tend to underestimate the power of fear, especially if you have been mollycoddled all your life, as most Japanese teenagers are. This reminds me of that rapist in Rome about 15 years ago who cajoled five Japanese female tourists into going back to his apartment, where he took out a sword and threatened them if they moved. He then proceeded to rape each one , while the others sat there terrified waiting their turn. Or more recently, in japan, there was the case of that guy who murdered his ex-girlfriend's mother and then abducted the girl and took her by plane to Okinawa. She obediently went along with him despite having numerous chances to escape at the airport and other places. All it took was a threat.

It is hard to change an ingrained mentality that all is secure and I'm safe. If you have never been exposed to violence or intimidation, when it comes, it can freeze you.

19 is considered a minor in Japan? Geeez!

Agreed. The situation seems strange based on what's in the article. I wonder if we're missing some important details. I doubt this guy would get that far if he tried this in most other countries. Nevertheless, I hope the girl is OK and can put her life back together.

According to police, the suspect, who cannot be named because he is a minor,

This is what is wrong with the Japanese police judicial system. They do exactly by the book. 19 years old and classified as minor on this sick animal. The name should be made public on major crime such as this, even if they are minor. He should be tried as a adult and punishable to the fullest exent of the law.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I cannot put any blame on the girl. 1) It isn't her fault. 2) How many times do people ask for help and are completely ignored?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The first thing that struck me when they caught Ichihashi was that there are thousands of young men just like him throughout Japan. He just went too far and got caught. Rape is commonplace in Japan.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree. Even if she had read it aloud, people would not have put two and two together. Their brains would have worked out every other possible scenario first, by which time it would have been too late.

Another reason why the age of criminal responsiblity needs to be lowered to 18.

Chemical castration and a LONG time behind bars for this scum. I should add that before the castration, that girl should be made to wear steel capped boots and given a free kick (or ten) at the intended area.

Rape is commonplace in Japan.

DAMN RIGHT! The keystones usually mock rape-victims and laugh about it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He is above the age of criminal responsibility and he will be tried. They just can't name him that's all. Personally, I don't think that's so unreasonable given that at this stage he remains a suspect, not a convict. That said, assuming he did it, lets hope he gets punished to the full extent of the law and doesn't just get a suspended sentence.

Yes, I suppose the girl could have taken some action to defend herself, but as Razor mentioned, this high school girl was afraid of her LIFE. Think about: if you are presented with "If you don't want to die...", even if you have the capacity to think logically, you're train of thought will go at least several ways... One: ok, turn around, kick him in the groin, scream for help. Two: What if he's got a knife, and the moment I turn around, he stabs me and I die? or just as worse, even after I kick him, he still manages to stab me before the others in the elevator are able to subdue him and I die? or somebody else gets stabbed and they die? Three: How can I use the help of these other people? How many other residents are in this elevator? (if the girl was standing in the very front of the elevator with everybody behind her), I can't even turn around to look because one false move, and he could stab me... what if the others in the elevator are an elderly man and a mother with a baby in her arms?

Either way, I agree with all of you that said this sick boy needs to be put away for a long long time, and I personally will NEVER live in the city because there are too many sick SOB's there.

Biglittleman:

Japanese women are running into the arms of foreign men

Even if you're generalizing here, you'd be wrong. To say that Japanese women running into the arms of foreign men are a minority would be an understatement. Don't let your head get too big, it'll slow you down.

Aah, such a virile young man. 19 year old who cannot be named, you are credit to glorious Japan and an inspiration for those who are not yet greasing her birthing machines. I have nothing but admiration and high hopes of progress upon your release from the pretense incarceration.

The hell with chemical castration - a dull, rusty knife would be better suited.

Tahoochi:

Maybe it's just me being a guy, but if someone the size of Bob Sapp said he was gonna rape me or kill me, i'd be one dead mofo. But a lot of the things you listed are good factors to think about. But why would he take her to HIS apartment and they live in the same building...strange.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

if I could kill rapists and get away with it legally, I would glady would take on the responsibility (and burdens).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A minor... WTF! If he is old enough to rape someone, he is old enough to be punished and exposed as an adult. These little shits hide behind their presumed innocence by society at large "but he is a cute little minor who does not have the capacity to know right from wrong, so go easy on the poor little boy". What a load of BS.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That poor girl! I agree, fear can make do almost anything. When you're there in the middle of it, your brain doesn't work the way it normally does. I don't blame her at all.

The boy on the other hand, I hope they put him away for a long time.

Not all Japanese men have inadequacies. Predatory men exist in every race, and they actively seek out victims they can dominate. These victims can include your timid high school girl, your kind-hearted eikawa sensei and a nice girl who works at an ice cream shop. Any woman can be a victim, any man can be a predator. Be careful and read the news.

Osakadaz: "Guys like this should just be chemically castrated and save further unhappiness and horrible outcomes."

2 bricks would be enough for a castration.

The little punk's foreplay: “If you don’t want to die, do what I say.”

Something wrong with this story. Did he send the mail to her? and if so, how did he get her mail address? or did he show her a text on his phone from behind as stated above too? If others were in the elevator, wouln't someone look at you as really weird if you stuck a cell phone with a message in someone's face?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

flatearther: You're right about that.

Sounds like this poor girl was frozen in shock. And when that happens, all logical thought goes out the window and you don't feel that you have control over your body. I hope she recovers from this.

Always amazed at how many "eye for ane" merchants use this site. What's wrong, back home too "liberal" for you all?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I suppose the street where he threatened her was a solitary street or there were few people around. I might have just blinked at him at passed by (if he used kanji I have not learned yet in his message) or just use a high-pitched scream if he tried to get closer. At least he got caught and he will pay for his crimes. Several reports of similar incidents? This guy needs to be put away for a very long time.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Almondjoy picked up on it.

Why would you try this with someone in your own building? What a loser.

You think he had more in mind and chickened out? Strange indeed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Can't be charged, he is a minor, he'll be let free.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I highly doubt that he came up with this modus operandum all on his own. Possible it is on one of those very useful 'how-to' sites on the net.

19 years old and still a minor ?? Bit backward....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

potsu:

" 19 years old and still a minor ?? Bit backward.... "

Its the law here. Never seen those insane "coming of age" parties every year? Fact is, as long as he is not 20, he can get away with almost anything with a slap on the wrist.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Okinawamike:

Why would you try this with someone in your own building?

By the way this article is written/translated, I also assumed at first that both the perp and the girl live in the same building, and the elevator mentioned in the article is also located in the same building... but can we be sure of this? because it doesn't actually state this anywhere in the article.

Also, yahoo japan news reports that there were 4 other similar cases reported in the AREA (not the same building) since September, and one of them resulting in a girl being stabbed with a utility (exacto) knife... all the more reason the girl may not have been able to muster up enough courage to attempt escaping.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The minor will skate after paying minor dues. Anyone figured out why they want to roll back the age of adulthood yet?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

They just showed the perp on TV. Quite a muscular body-building type this "minor". I guess that explains a little why she was so easily intimidated.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So, how do you think they can blame this on the girl?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Once a rapist, always a rapist... This guy will cause some problems to the society later. Better treat him well right now...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The 19-year-old man is a minor! There is something very wrong with this terminology. Why doesn't the article call him a 19-year-old boy?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

They just showed the perp on TV. Quite a muscular body-building type this "minor".

Until he comes face to face with someone his own gender / size.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

" Until he comes face to face with someone his own gender / size. "

Well, I assume he does not want to rape someone of his own gender/size.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Its been proven over and over again that letting these so called "minors" go into society again, they continue to commit more crimes and many times, there crimes turn into something very violent resulting in innocent people being victims. The laws are crap! I was just reading about a few murdered Japanese victims on Wikipedia. Many of the murderers are walking right around us today in the open. Here is one clear example of many: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junko_Furuta -- Protect and Defend yourself! The Law is rubbish!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Get the Jenglish right:

19-year-old "man" then it says: the suspect, who cannot be named because he is a "minor"

Grown Man/Adult or Minor which is it......Someone please tell rush limbaugh :)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"swingaway" I do like the way you think!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Now this annoys me, he is old enough to know what is right and what is wrong, he should be charged as an adult. Anyone that rapes a female or child should hang in my books, you behave like an animal then you have no use on the planet, if you cannot execute scum like this then give them the same punishment.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

newjapanese,

couldn't agree more with you, hussy. screw this rapist punk and throw stones at him like in the middle east nations.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This will definitely encourage nation of devious individuals "underage" to completely take advantage of this chance of the lifetime opportunity to do whatever they want sexually and get away with it. I guess laws are written to protect all the criminals they can cover, of course all murderers, rapists, sick bastards all have their right in to inflict pain of their surrounding and to have the state feed them for the rest of their lives when caught. This kind of law is a comedy farce....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I guess the westernization has take the balls out of Japanese system of real justice. Back then in the past everyone carried a sword to hack away the villians, and angry mob will avenge the injustice, now you have the weak floral laws to decorate this decadent system of unjust....sigh....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well well like to rape ey? my saying is deal with your own blood in your own manor see he would die if he tried that near me I'd read from behind him and pull out my ak-47 and shot him down
