Police in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture, have arrested a member of a yakuza syndicate and an electrician for allegedly breaking into a post office in April and stealing a cash machine containing around 10.6 million yen in cash.

According to police, Manabu Nishikawa, 46, a self-professed member of the Yamaguchi-gumi from Yokkaichi City, and Shinichiro Maeda, 44, an electrician from Ise City, were arrested on charges of unlawful entry and theft in April, Kyodo News reported.

Police said the ATM (measuring 70 cm high, 80 cm long, 40 cm wide and weighing 230 kg), which was installed inside Kasumi post office, was found outside the premises at around 5 a.m. on April 15. No monetary loss was reported since the suspects were unable to make off with the ATM. It is believed that the two gave up midway during the heist.

Police said the suspects used a crowbar to break the lock of an employee entranceway to get into the post office. The two suspects and an as yet unidentified third man were seen on security camera footage breaking into the post office.

It is believed that the two gave up midway during the heist.

That's why oreore scam is more popular in Japan than ATM break in.

They didn't actually steal anything. That's 'attempted robbery' and 'destruction of property'.

Just a little bit silly

What a pair of clowns. Could they not purloin a little pallet truck somewhere?

a member of a yakuza syndicate

I'd be more frightened by Haribo gumi.

Why was there so much cash in the ATM, especially if the PO is closed?

With criminals of this mental caliber, the police has an easy job

At least Mie's trying to get into the news. Ain't quite Saitama or Chiba level but good effort nonetheless.
