Police said Monday that the bodies of two people were discovered wrapped in a vinyl sheet beneath the floorboards of a house in Kyoto's Fushimi Ward, and that they may be linked to the suicides of three people in the same house eight years ago.
According to police, the remains of the two individuals, which were found on Saturday afternoon, have been there for several years, TBS reported.
Police said the house's current resident, a man who had been living in the house by himself for over five years, made a call for an exterminator in order to combat a problem with termites. The exterminator turned over a few floorboards underneath a tatami mat and found the two bodies.
According to the police, one body, that of a woman, was estimated to be in her 40s at the time of death. Officials were unable to estimate the age of the second individual. The man living in the house told police he had absolutely no idea the remains were there.
Eight years ago, the man living in the house at the time, along with two women he met online, all killed themselves in a mass suicide, TBS reported. Police believe the two people were murdered and their bodies wrapped in sheets and stashed beneath the floor before the other three committed suicide.

One day the Japanese cops will master such advanced investigative techniques as "looking under things".

Wow, time to move to another house? House of horror.

If you read articles like this in foreign newspapers it is usually a hugely sensational story, but in Japan it's just posted as another multiple death another normal day cos it happens so often!

More to the story? Why murdered? Why suicide pact?
Hope we get an update...

Mass suicide? Wow, how did they manage to bury themselves?

So from that it sounds like the man had murdered 2 people before he killed himself.

I think "ビニルシート" here should have been translated as "tarp," not "vinyl sheet".

Good lord. I would be terrified to go to sleep on those tatami mats.
On a side note, I wonder if the current resident bought or rented the house. In Japan estate agents or landlords are legally obliged to disclose things like suicides, murders, or other violent events which took place on the ground or risk a massive fine and / or loss of license.

If the price of a place is highly discounted if someone dies there, he needs to call the real estate agency and say, "SHOW ME THE MONEY!"

Wow, I personally would freak out if I found out I had been sleeping on top of dead bodies for 5 years!

"What Lies Beneath"
The question then was: Did someone die in this place?
Now: Are you sure there are no dead bodies "stashed away" here somewhere?
timtak
Sounds like this house may be on the market at a highly discounted rate.

Mass suicide really? time to get the rent reduced!
