Police said Monday that the bodies of two people were discovered wrapped in a vinyl sheet beneath the floorboards of a house in Kyoto's Fushimi Ward, and that they may be linked to the suicides of three people in the same house eight years ago.
According to police, the remains of the two individuals, which were found on Saturday afternoon, have been there for several years, TBS reported.
Police said the house's current resident, a man who had been living in the house by himself for over five years, made a call for an exterminator in order to combat a problem with termites. The exterminator turned over a few floorboards underneath a tatami mat and found the two bodies.
According to the police, one body, that of a woman, was estimated to be in her 40s at the time of death. Officials were unable to estimate the age of the second individual. The man living in the house told police he had absolutely no idea the remains were there.
Eight years ago, the man living in the house at the time, along with two women he met online, all killed themselves in a mass suicide, TBS reported. Police believe the two people were murdered and their bodies wrapped in sheets and stashed beneath the floor before the other three committed suicide.© Japan Today
