Two boys attending a public junior high school in Tokyo's Katsushika Ward have been arrested for alleged extortion of students.
The two boys, who are currently in their third year of junior high school, are suspected of having committed the crime in January of this year, Fuji TV reported. Police said the pair approached two high school boys on the street while they were riding their bicycles, and verbally intimidated them. They told the boys on the bikes: "Hey, you just glared at us. Give us your money or we’re going to beat you.” The two high school boys reportedly handed over 5,900 yen in cash.
Police said the two suspects are believed to have committed the same crime in the same area the previous day. A total of eight high school students have admitted to being threatened and the total amount of money taken was between 40,000 to 50,000 yen.
According to police, the two junior high schoolers have admitted to the series of crimes, saying they targeted "diligent-looking" boys.

How do you know that they are not simply following in their parents footsteps? Anyway, in this case the victims where HS students intimidated by middle school students? Come on, my sympathy is limited. At that age, a few years make a big difference.

Future Yakuza. That two boys' parents must be terrified by their children action. Katsushika-ku, Kameari was my former home town.

Why doesn't that crap ever happen to me or at least when I am around? Because I sure a s41t tell you it would not happen for long. Absolutely can not stand worthless little punk kids bully other kids.

Nice they got caught. Same happens to me once, only difference I ended up beating one of the so badly that he didn't come to school for about 2-3 weeks. Not any of the bullies at the school dared to get near me after that.

I am glad the thugs were caught, they were not just bullies they were dangerous criminals and should be put in jail and taught a powerful lesson.

Not trying to promote violence but if the two of them would have just attacked one of the baddies then the other dimwit would have run off scared. But they didn't want trouble so they paid...

Don't be fooled by that JHS label. I taught JHS last year, and some of those "boys" looked like 3rd year HS students.

"Love how the Japanese down play everything... this was a mugging not extortion"
The dictionary definition of "mugging" is: "an act of attacking someone and stealing their money"
So it was indeed "extortion" because there was no violence, just the threat of violence from a couple of チンピラ (chimpira)

Umm... Just ride away!?! You're on bikes, they're on foot. If those H.S. boys are that dim, they deserve to have their money, erm, their parent's money taken.

They'll go far. The Japanese Krays.

They probably could care less abut being arrested. What deterrent is their when you have JHS students targeting HS students?
Citizen2012
Send them work at the Fukushima plant, they need people over there.
Jalapeno
At least they didn't target girls.
Seriously, these boy victims need to be taught basic martial arts - karate, jeet kun do, Brazilian jiu-jitsu - anything. They need to put down their Gameboys and start fighting for real. Put some hair on their chest.

These "diligent looking" kids need to take a stand. Too bad they will get beat up. I would fake like I'm getting the money from my book bag and then sucker punch one of them. And I would report the incident each time I was extorted or beat up.

That was the first thing I noticed in the article!

JHS kids extorting money from HS kids. Usually in these stories it's the other way around.

"Diligent looking" = Kids smaller than themselves.
