Police on Sunday arrested two British men for swimming across the imperial moat and climbing up into the imperial compound.
According to police, the two men, identified as Louis Collin, 25, and Joe Burdon, 24, said they were tourists. NTV reported that police guarding the imperial palace spotted the pair on an embankment after swimming across the moat near Sakuradamon at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday. They were in their underwear but had the rest of their clothes and cameras in a bucket.
Police said the two men appeared to be drunk. One suspect was quoted as saying they wanted to take photos inside the imperial compound.© Japan Today
