2 British men arrested for trespassing in imperial compound

Police on Sunday arrested two British men for swimming across the imperial moat and climbing up into the imperial compound.

According to police, the two men, identified as Louis Collin, 25, and Joe Burdon, 24, said they were tourists. NTV reported that police guarding the imperial palace spotted the pair on an embankment after swimming across the moat near Sakuradamon at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday. They were in their underwear but had the rest of their clothes and cameras in a bucket.

Police said the two men appeared to be drunk. One suspect was quoted as saying they wanted to take photos inside the imperial compound.

They must have thought the first Brit who swam the moat was a tourist attraction...and decided to expereince it themselves. lol.

Koi...British style!

I'd like to party with those two blokes! Good on ya! LOL!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

They were drunk so according to Japanese law they should be let go with a slap on the wrist.

Does anyone know what the jail time is for tresspassing on the imperial grounds?

@ saul - Who pays for all that "Private" Property?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Japan is a great country. They did not get shot on sight.

@ Spydenator

i suggest the Tokyo police should import and spawn Australian alligators in the imperial moat.

I think you mean crocodiles!

Meanwhile, at the police station:

-- What is your name son?

-- My name is Pond, Jim Pond !

Apparently, people do not understand the concept of Private Property these days

AU, I think these guys were already affected by the brain-eating bacteria. I remember the guy who did a similar thing a few years ago (also Brit), the guy had some mental issues and got away easily, despite becoming violent during the arrest. These guys did not do anything too serious, so they will be probably just send back home after a night at the Koban and maybe a fine

makes Brits like myself ashamed..

It makes me rather proud. Good for them.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Proper Brits would have done it naked..

Totally reminds me of that naked guy from a few years back, still one of the most hilarious things ever. Look at how swarms of Tokyo's finest(?) run in fear from the lone naked Gaijin! Pure comedy gold.

Bonus image: http://www.wordpress.tokyotimes.org/archives/naked_gaijin202.jpg Check out how deadly shocked and serious everyone in the photo is, except for the gaijin at the back, with a massive grin on his face :D

Ah, Britain´s proudest export: Drunken Chavs

In this day and age of increased force protection/security - stupid move on their part. In the United States they might have been shot dead by security forces. Revoke their tourist visa and send them home at once!

anyone should avoid swimming in a stagnat water, or even partially-stagnant water. This also applies to swimming pools not properly cleaned after the long winter season.

Much more freightening than flesh-eating bacteria is the BRAIN-eating bacteria which enter to the brain through the nose.

There is no cure for the brain-eating bacteria. After 2 months, meningitis will occur then no more than another month you're dead.

About 10-20 people are victims of this bacteria in the USA and about 100-200 worldwide. each year.

At least they never broke into a house, attacked someone or got themselves killed on top of a train...

3 ( +3 / -0 )

if they thought it was a public area then just a typical day for the Brits.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Given that it was 7.30 AM, it looks like the culmination of a 12-hour bender. Bet the hangover was nasty.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Makes Brits like me wonder how much of the local brew they had before deciding to be a couple of idiots.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Spydenator, yes, the defences are clearly inadequate. Perhaps a few thousand piranha trained to smell British people would do the trick.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Really, in their underwear??? That is terribly uncivilized! I would have gotten a small boat to row across fully dressed!!

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Fantastic chutzpah from these guys! Well done! Tourists should get to swim around the Imperial palace and take pictures of the incredibly rare, staggeringly expensive and ever-diminishing remnants of a time when we thought being born into a particular family somehow made one special.

Hope they try again!

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Ah, thank you Brits. Glad to see you guys doing something stupid in the limelight. For a while there it seemed to be us Americans in the spotlight. Care to do a duet?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Jack Stern, I used to work in a building that had a view. Could see the top floor windows of the imperial residence from our office. Presumably much more from higher up the building.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

to prevent another British invasion to the imperial palace, i suggest the Tokyo police should import and spawn Australian alligators in the imperial moat.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

With any luck, the two idiots will contract some incurable flesh-eating bacterial infection.

-13 ( +0 / -13 )

itll be interesting if they get off because they were drunk, seems to work for the Japanese but being gaijin Brits im not so sure.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

You can see all perfectly from any high rise around, had that view for 5 years... Actually I reckon swimming and water sports should be allowed since this is a public land really... That said... the water quality there is absolutely terrible..I feel sorry for the guards that had to touch em...

3 ( +4 / -1 )

It wasn't a rant. I was merely pointing out that it hardly seems worthwhile feeling ashamed about the actions of two foolish strangers. It pains me to see words being used inappropriately. Like your use of "atrocious" for example.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Nothing more atrocious than two pasty faced drunken Brits stripping off in the middle of town, except maybe using that as an occasion to post a completely irrelevant political rant.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

makes Brits like myself ashamed..

Seriously? You actually feel shame because of the actions of two drunken strangers to whom (I assume) you have zero connection besides the place in which you happened to be born?

4 ( +9 / -5 )

haha they better dredge the swamp in case there were some who didnt make it LOL!!

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Tomorrow they will be new "talento". Betcha

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Mad dogs and englishmen! They sure will have a unique story to tell their mates at the end of their holidays! Give em a stern lecture - in japanese - and send em on their way.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Reminds of the naked British guy that went swimming there about 3 or 4 years ago.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Too funny!

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

I have heard that tall buildings facing the palace have windows that are unable to view the compound.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Not the first time either, wasn't there another one 2 or 3 years ago?

I think that was around a year ago.. Think the guy that time was Japanese.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Not the first time either, wasn't there another one 2 or 3 years ago?

I think there was, but that guy got quite aggressive if I remember correctly. I`d love to get over that moat and into the palace compound myself to see what is in there, but as you would get arrested there is no chance of me ever copying them. If you are ever near the palace just look into the trees, they have a lot of security cameras in them.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

They must have smelled ripe after swimming in that moat!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Not the first time either, wasn't there another one 2 or 3 years ago?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

makes Brits like myself ashamed..

Makes Brits like me smile....

17 ( +20 / -3 )

Why didn't the archers stop them?

11 ( +11 / -0 )

British Invasion Part Duh!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

makes Brits like myself ashamed..

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Embarrassing... and rather cold, I imagine.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

But of course they were drunk. Idiots.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

I guess they found the beer in Tokyo to their liking.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

That water is super nasty.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Hope they are not BBC journalists.
