Police in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, have arrested two brothers on suspicion of assaulting a man and then damaging his car after they got into an argument.

According to police, the two brothers — Sugiya Gonai, 25, and Hyuga, 21 — are karate champions, having won black belts when they were in junior high school. The dispute occurred at around 3:10 a.m. on April 3, Sankei Shimbun reported. According to police, the suspects were intoxicated and riding bicycles when the 35-year-old victim honked at them on a prefectural road in Takatsu Ward.

When the victim stopped his car, an altercation ensued. The victim was kicked in the face and ran to a nearby police box. Sugiya, a transportation industry worker, and Hyuga, a scaffold builder, are accused of kicking the passenger vehicle and destroying the side mirror.

Police said the brothers have denied the charge.

When you're in a car and something bad happens outside, don't get out of the car unless your vehicle is immobilized, you're already protected inside. But I will say this though, car owners should be nice to pedestrians as much as they can, even car owners become pedestrians once they step out of their cars. Jerks are everywhere, you'll never know if you ticked the wrong guy off

Toshihiro; I understand your point but it should work both ways. Too many cyclists ride their bikes on highways blocking lanes, riding side by side and think they own the roads. I’m a driver in Japan and out of concern for a cyclist’s safety, I will give a slight beep of my horn to let them know I’m behind them and want to pass. (Them doing 20km on a 60km road). Almost all drivers don’t do it out of anger however out of courtesy. But, so many cyclists would flip me off! Why? Cyclists don’t own the roads. Let’s share them and respect each other.

@since1981: totally agree! I ride my bike more than I drive and I also get a lot of those gentle honks from passing drivers just a heads up and I appreciate it. We can all share the road. But drunk people are irrational and are a danger to them and those around them. This is why I never tangle with people who I think are under the influence

Obviously they forgot rule number 1. Karate for DEFENSE only. Rule number 2? First learn rule number 1.

Lock them both up and throw away the key.

are karate champions

That should read WERE, not are.

> when they were in junior high school

> at around 3:10 a.m........

> So some 6 - 10 years later, what have they done for society lately? Sounds like a couple of winners. Their parents must be proud.
