A dead cat was found on a street in Tokyo's Nerima Ward on Wednesday. It follows the discovery of another dead cat in the grounds of a nearby school on April 9, police said Thursday.
A local resident in Asahigaoka heard what sounded like a cat screaming at around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and went outside and found the cat already dead on the street, Sankei reported. Police said it looked like the cat had been kicked to death.
The cat found in the school grounds on April 9 had been decapitated, police said.

Hopefully there are some security cameras around those areas. Someone needs psychiatric treatment in a secure facility, with no access to anything.

There should be a law requiring psychological counseling for anyone found guilty of animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is a key warning sign for possible future violence by the people involved.

If you can kill a cat in cold blood, you can also kill a human in cold blood. The criminal(s) needs to be locked away asap.

As a cat lover who's taken in three stray cats, I find this so terrible. Poor things. I'd be devastated to lose one of mine to something like this.

I read a comment or two here not long ago where people claimed doing this was a public service of some kind. Not that they wrote they tossed the carcasses onto school grounds, but people do get some strange ideas of helping out their communities.

Does that one girl who killed her classmate (and almost her father) live in the area?

This is a twisted, sadistic, nutjob who needs picking up asap! In the meantime, keep a close eye on your kids. Oh, and yer cat, too.

Two dead cats = national news?
Must be a Japan thing.

Two tortured cats. There's a difference.

It could be like the end of the world for the cats' owner(s) though an actual end to the world would mean no one would suffer except those in the space station if it survived. I hope they find the sick person(s) asp.

I do agree that in most of our countries, tortured cats would probably not show up in National news but local news. Heck, where I'm from it might show up as a listing of police activity in the back of the newspaper.
Anyways I am a catlover and want whoever is doing this behind bars pronto before they do the same to people.

If finding a dead cat makes news there is something wrong here, there are thousands of feral cats all over the place and they get killed like other animals from predators, 2 legged, 4 legged, and no-legged, types as well.
Over sensationalizing something without all the facts.

On the contrary, it means there is something right. It means there are not enough murders, violent assaults, and other horrifying acts that would generally take priority over finding a dead cat.

This is not a sign of there not being enough real news coverage of of oversensitive animal lovers bemoaning a dead cat. It is news because there is a recorded and recent history of any number of crimes against people, specifically children, murders if you will, where the murderer had on at least one occasion murdered a cat or two. There is a link between the gruesome murder of cats and the potential ensuing crime. More than any other animal, feral cats seem to be the target of anti-social behavior. They represent something that the person resents or longs for and can't have. What? Independence. Inner peace. Freedom. Even community among other cats. There are any number of jounals online where experts show the link between animal abuse and human abuse. There are links between dog fighters and domestic violence.

Actually there is something wrong here, as there are literally hundreds of crimes that get committed daily in Japan that never get reported in the press.
The cops limit what gets reported to keep the image of a safe Japan alive in peoples minds.
