Police in Koga, Ibaraki Prefecture, have arrested a 70-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving resulting in injury after he hit two 15-year-old junior high schools riding bikes on Sunday.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 9 a.m. Sunday. Police said Seiichi Sekine, a demolition worker, has admitted to hitting the two girls who were riding along a road with no sidewalks, Fuji TV reported. He was quoted by police as saying he panicked and kept going because he didn’t want to be found out.

The two girls were taken to hospital. One of them remains unconscious, while the other one suffered minor injuries.

Police identified Sekine’s vehicle from eyewitness accounts and street surveillance camera footage.

What a coward! Let’s hope he spends his remaining years in the slammer. This “I panicked and ran away” cowardly scenario is way too common in Japan. And, unfortunately, the penalties for leaving the scene are not severe enough. Just a bunch of selfish children who care more about themselves than the people the have hit.

Expat,

Yeah, right. 70 year old guy will say he is sorry, pay a paltry amount to the families of the

victims and then go on his merry way. He may not even lose his license. 70 year old

He may have been drunk as well which is why he fled.
