Were there is demand, there will always be supply. It's all about survival of the fittest.

Don't know if this is related, but apparently police searching their home also found a large tank of ooze in their basement.

Thinking of turtles - let them swim.

These two NitWits would face Less Time had they been drug smugglers. Next time they might take the WIDE-OPEN Mexican Border route!!

Throw the book at these two grubby individuals. I guess they may try the eating-turtle-is-Japanese-custon angle, and argue that they were going to eat them?!

Maybe they could say someone else packed their bags? Or, they got the turtles from a foreigner. That always seems to work here.

borscht: "Maybe they could say someone else packed their bags? Or, they got the turtles from a foreigner. That always seems to work here."

It WOULD work if they were caught here, of course, but they weren't, fortunately. 21 years is a mighty hefty sentence for it, but I hope they face SOME time for their crime.

"turtle smuggling"

Not as serious as drug or gun smuggling.

It boggles the mind to think that there's even a demand for turtles here in the U.S. that they have to smuggle them in. I'd x-ray all those turtles for hidden drugs.

Right up there with "eel mislabeling".
