Two men, both aged 20, have been arrested on suspicion of assaulting and robbing a 21-year-old university student on a street in Kawasaki.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. on March 28 near Mizunokuchi Station, Kyodo News reported. The two men, Ryota Nakamoto, who works in the construction industry, and Rion Komatsu, who is unemployed, are accused of attacking the university student as he walked near the station.

Police said the two men confronted the student and told him to stop. An altercation ensued and the student was punched in the face, suffering a broken chin bone. The victim told police his attackers forced him to go to a bank ATM and threatened him further if he didn’t withdraw money. The victim withdrew 190,000 yen and the suspects fled.

The two suspects were identified after an analysis of security camera footage. The victim said he did not know them.

Police said there were several people on the sidewalk at the time of the assault but no one called 110. They believe the two suspects may be part of a gang that has committed similar robberies.

I thought Japan is one of the safest or safest countries. This should never be occurring in Japan or other similar countries like South Korea or Taiwan.

It is a little strange to read the unnecessarily butt-hurt comments here, when no additional humans were hurt, and the police did their job. @ a bunch of you positing fallacious arguments.

People like u were complaining about too many CCTV in Japan or Britain violating private life and now want the footage for the crime?

The dreaded unemployed person strikes again. Yesterday, we had two of them. My solution, if elected, will be to reduce unemployment to zero point zero percent, but, in the meantime: Do they get inmates to press license plates here? They can hone some skills in the lockup.

So this article is saying, the cops actually found them just based off of security camera footage? And no other info?

how is that even possible? Unless the two punks have been busted multiple times?

and good looking out citizens. Multiple witnesses, but no assistance and no call to the cops. Just pathetic to all involved.

So, why didn't he shout for help while he was taken to the ATM??

I can understand people not trying to intervene and help because I've seen it and read about it countless times - but no one even calling 110 when a young guy is being set upon by 2 punks is a disgrace.

What if it's your son, or your daughter? How do you want others to react? Help them, or try and get help for them surely.

And, of course, perhaps the first of many charges to come for the pair in the next 23 days:

“They believe the 2 suspects may be part of a gang that has committed similar robberies.” -

Well done, JT. - A plethora of topics on which to speculate: One being that others circled around, behaving as the were taught: Never intervene.

“Police said there were several people on the sidewalk at the time of the assault but no one called 110.” -

Quick PD fieldwork and analysis of area CCTV to id the suspects in about a week. Plus, …

presumably some thanks are also due to the duo’s service providers for those additional ‘pings?
