Police in Osaka have arrested two men on suspicion of spraying tear gas on a man and stealing his bag containing 180,000 in cash in May.
Police said the suspects, Ryuki Matsui, 23, and Yokuku Liu, 20, a South Korean national, have no fixed address or occupation.
The incident occurred at around 3 a.m. on May 29 along a street in Chuo Ward. The 36-year-old man was returning home when the suspects sprayed him with tear gas and stole his bag (worth about 680,000 yen), 180,000 yen in cash and 21 other items.
Following his arrest on Tuesday, Matsui has refused to comment, while Liu, who was arrested on June 18 for violating the Stimulant Drugs Control Act, has admitted to the charge, Sankei Shimbun reported. After his arrest, Liu was transferred to a hotel within Osaka City for medical treatment after testing positive for COVID-19.
Police said Matsui and Liu are acquaintances, and their involvement in the robbery was captured on street surveillance footage.

Wishing a quick recovery for the victim so he can give more details of the ‘how & why’.

2 ADULT thugs, off the streets. The younger is also named because he’s now 20 and recognized as an adult, NOT a minor. (Being a S. Korean National is just a secondary issue.)

This is a very specific number of “items” but no details of what or their value:

Didn’t a returning travel “quarantinee(?)” just easily escape from a similar hotel?

¥680,000 for a bag? My sympathy level has just dropped a notch if that isn't a typo.

As alluded to in the 1st comment, @MrKipling 8:17am, there’s more to the story than is conveyed, Here’s a possible clue to the inflated value of the bag and “21 other items”:
So, …

What the? What the?
What kind of men walk around at 3 a.m. with handbags worth $6,000? Another Japanese news article that lacks key information needed to understand what's actually going on.

3 AM Chuo Ward. Osaka, his bag worth 680,000 yen, 180,000 yen cash and 21 other items. -
Who is this strange guy walking around at 3 AM with an expensive bag, cash and I wonder what are these 21 other items he carries with him?
nandakandamanda
Smhell above, yes, it’s the same guy apparently.

Really? Good! @nandakandamanda 4:420m (and after so many downvotes for speculating!?!?) So, why doesn’t JT mentioned the previous story from Jun 25? Or, did they NOT connect the stories as well??? I found your earlier post:

患者は覚醒剤に関係して警察に逮捕されたあと感染が分かり、釈放されて、そのままホテルに移動していたことが分かりました。
保健所からの届け出を受け、警察が行方を捜しています。
Unbelievable.

**After his arrest, Liu was transferred to a hotel within Osaka City for medical treatment after testing positive for COVID-19. ** Did I read this right it sounds as if they sent Liu to club med a hotel for treatment instead to jail.

Sounds more like a drug deal gone wrong than a random jacking.
Get rid of all three of them.
