2 men fined ¥100,000 for overturning small truck during Halloween revelry

Two men, aged 20 and 22, have been fined 100,000 yen each for overturning a small truck during Halloween revelry near the Shibuya scramble crossing in Tokyo in late October.

Earlier this month, police arrested four men in connection with the incident. The four admitted to the charge of property destruction but told police they were drunk and got carried away. They told police that they did not know each other prior to the incident.

Police dropped the indictments against the other two men.

No one was injured in the incident which occurred at around 1 a.m. on Sunday Oct 28. Just before the truck was flipped over, the driver managed to escape through the window.

Police initially said about 10-15 men were involved but decided not to proceed with the investigation as surveillance camera footage could not positively identify the others.

Does the owner of the truck get the money?

100,000 yen is about £680, now, is that a fine or does that go to repairing the damaged van? does the owner of the van get any compensation? this article is not very clear, can some one from J news clarify this please. IF this is just a fine its not good, as the owner of the van has to pay out of his pocket or make a claim on his insurance.

Does the owner of the truck get the money?

Silly, this is Japan, of course not. The money goes directly to the Police Friday night Nomikai fund.

Fines are handed not for the benefits of victims, but as a means of punishment for breaking the law.

That, and as a source of revenue.

Why aren't their names mentioned? I see so many others put to shame for their silly acts but these two can remain anonymous?

The car is insured for these kind of situation. Every fine like any country goes to the government. How could any of you not even know that? Fines are handed not for the benefits of victims, but as a means of punishment for breaking the law.

I'll bet ¥100,000 that the two who were let go were Japanese, and the two who were fined were foreigners.
