Poor woman, RIP. Good thing the suspects were arrested, let them rot in jail.

That took about 6 months. I wonder if the Japanese police were involved in the investigation?

One of the dangers of living alone in a foreign country. She should have come back to Japan after her husband‘a death. RIP.

This is heartbreaking. What a disgrace for the Philippines!

Despite Philippinos being some of the nicest and happiest people I ever met, the criminality, especially in Manilla is horrible (this is the reason why Duterte has so much popular support). RIP lady, and I hope the criminals will be properly punished.

After 82 years in this place and being pushed around by it's demands, to be made to leave it by yet one more act of blind brutality is profoundly sad. The greatest disappointment in being Human is Humanity itself.

It sounds like the motive was robbery and not murder. The fact that she was tied and gagged leads me to believe that the death was a tragic accident during the robbery. I hope justice prevails. It's hit or miss in the PI.

My comment is that I don’t trust Philippine police from my experience and that if japan was involved with its technology and funding, they found the pair.

To live as an ex-pat pensioner in the midst of poverty in a country with extreme differences of obscene wealth and mass immiseration is to live dangerously indeed.

The criminals were able to gain access to the house by removing a panel in the ceiling of the unit bath.

Why would anyone want to retire in the Philippines? A third world country where people would kill their own mother for a few pesos! The people of Japan are paying for the U.S. to defend them and the people of Okinawa are bearing the burden of hosting U.S. bases to defend them.

I believe so. Shikoku is very cheap in Japan for retirement perhaps

Tragic. Glad the suspects were caught. If they are found guilty in a fair judicial proceeding, I hope they receive a healthy dose of justice on the form of a long incarceration.

You forgot to mention that they may not be guilty at all - and it is very important to always, always, in reports of any crime, to point out that guilt is not determined until it is adjudicated.
