Two male police officers sustained serious injuries after being stabbed by a man in inis 30s in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, on Sunday night.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 9:40 p.m. when the two policemen visited a home in Kanazawa City to investigate a traffic offense. They had called in advance to let him know they were coming, police officials said.
During questioning, the man suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed the two officers, one inside the house and the other outside during a struggle. A male relative of the suspect who tried to intervene was also stabbed.
The suspect dropped the knife and then fled in a car, but was stopped an hour later about 50 kilometers away by a police patrol. Police said he has been charged with attempted murder.
The two officers, aged 35 and 40, were rushed to a hospital where they were treated for serious injuries to their faces and arms.
Police said that when the suspect was caught, he was speaking incoherently.

Policemen should have uniforms which are made of knife resistant materials. Police training should also require drills to avoid knife attacks and promote alertness.
