Police said Wednesday they have arrested two 18-year-old youths for dumping the body of their 20-year-old acquaintance last month in Yanagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture.

According to police, the two boys are being questioned over the death of Ryoji Tomozoe. Fuji TV quoted police as saying that the two suspects allegedly beat Tomozoe to death with a baseball bat on July 19 and then wrapped the body in a plastic sheet and dumped it on a riverbank.

Police quoted the boys as saying they had some trouble with Tomozoe.

They will be tried as adults if the case goes to district court. They will be tried as minors if the case goes to family court. It's time to abolish the the juvenile laws.

Should be tried and sentenced as adults at least.

In my world, prison for life.

I have trouble with lots of people but I don't beat them to death with a baseball bat.

If found guilty they should have the book thrown at them.c

"Police quoted the boys as saying they had some trouble with Tomozoe." What trouble?

You guys are quick to paint the victim white as usual. They are probably members of rivaling gangs and had a them or us situation. Fukuoka is nearly as bad as Amsterdam when it comes to people floating in the canals. This is probably not a jealousy or "he made fun of my bicycle" case.

Slight exaggeration there Magnus?

@bildeberg: I couldn't agree more!

Why do all the excuses given by criminals in this country seem so childish?! I used to think they were perhaps lost in translation, but I now realize it's because most adults here are, well, actually very childlike.

It's like they know they did something bad, but ball up into baby-mode when things get serious. I find this true for most things in Japan.

Is this one of the multiple choice answers?

The victim was an acquaintance who was troublesome. I guess he didn't want to play ball so they beat him with their bats.

Would you prefer they said they did it because they were bored, like in the case of the Australian getting shot in America?
