Police said Friday they have arrested a man over the murder of a taxi driver in Fukuoka Prefecture on Thursday.
According to police, residents in the town of Chikujo discovered 66-year-old Shigeo Ikeda, originally from Kitakyushu, lying on the ground next to his taxi in a residential area at around 12:10 a.m. Emergency services were called and Ikeda was taken to hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Police said he had been stabbed in the torso several times. A 20-year-old man standing nearby reportedly told police, "I stabbed the driver and took his money."
The man was taken into custody and charged with theft and murder.

Why?

I am scared. I have two reasons. First, I live in Fukuoka. So, it is very close. Second , I am as old as he. He said “I stabbed the driver and took his money.”. Unbelievable.

Kitakyushu is the worst place to live in Kyushu! I used to work there and it just sucks, boring, depressing, nothing to do, nothing really worth seeing, except the monorail, Yakuza all over the place, soap land shops, pachinko parlors, all this is a recipe for disaster, sad, but you could really see that coming. Ever noticed that in the jobs section, always the same companies are looking for English teachers and they can never keep any. Why? The city needs a serious overhaul.

And who knows if it's a contracted killing from one gang against another. The old man perhaps was a senior gang member if not a boss. The killer would be out of jail by the time he reach 30 and he knows it for sure. Everywhere in Japan things like this can happen and the story behind the news never get out.

Gangster bosses moonlighting as cab drivers - interesting theory.
CrazyJoe
First of all, the guy arrested for the robbery murder is 27 years old. He threatened the cab driver with a knife but the the cab driver gave a struggle so he stabbed him. He took 10,000 yen and fled on foot but police caught him not far from the scene of the crime about an hour and a half later . He told police he didn't intend to kill him.

If his statement is true I sure hope he gets the rope when time comes.

Thanks for the clarification CrazyJoe.
JT: Something lost in translation here? According your the article, it sounds like the guy was just hanging around at the scene and tapped a cop on his shoulder and said "Excuse me..... I did that"

Good one Tahoochi...maybe CrazyJoe should write for JT...they sure have been gettin a few of their stories miss-remembered (in a Roger Clemens voice)

This young man, may not not have had the ball to commit suicide, so he waited until the ripe old age of 20, old enough to hang in Japan if you murder, so now one poor, innocent taxi driver their in crappy kita kyushu is dead and one more fool will have time in a Japanese jail to maybe think it over, on what a looser he is and they hopefully they will hang him. RIP cabbie from North 9 states, Kita Kyu Shu 北九州う??

There are so many things wrong with your comment, I don't even know where to begin.
Kitakyushu is the Detroit of Japan.
