Police in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, said Friday they have arrested a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of abusing her one-month-old son by biting him on the arm.

According to police, the mother, who hasn’t been named, is a university student, Sankei Shimbun reported. She was arrested on Thursday and has admitted to the allegation, police said.

Police said the incident occurred sometime between 6 p.m. on Sept 3 and 7 a.m. the next day. The woman bit her son on his left arm. She took him to a hospital where doctors notified a child welfare facility about a possible case of abuse.

The child’s injury took about a week to heal, police said. He was taken into protective custody on Sept 5.

Police said the mother has not attended any classes at university since April.

Child welfare workers: Please don't drop the ball onnthis; I don't want to be reading about another child being killed by its parents because of your incompetence.

sigh...................someone create a sex education program in some of these schools already. Or at least have the parents of former baby abusers come in to talk about how ignorant they have been in the past. Scared Straight.

Why why why? I know there can't possibly be a good reason for her actions and who really cares that she hasn't been to university classes since April?

Normally in Japan the girls mother spends time with the daughter helping her deal with the stress of caring for a new born baby .... So where was the girls mother ???? This is the beginning of a serious child abuse case ..

Best case scenario have family members raise the child not the mother....

It can't be first and only harmful thing she's done. If it was so, it could be called an accident.

Also if not going to Uni since April, she is not a university student then

Whatever her problem is, it's better to separate her from the child.

We will never know the full details so it's impossible to judge fully. One clue though....

The woman bit her son on his left arm. She took him to a hospital......

Was there some remorse on the mother's part so she took him to get medical attention in spite of the risk of getting reported for child abuse?

Maybe she bit her son in a moment of post partum depression or frustration? The result of the stress of a newborn? Lack of sleep? Whatever the case, it is very wrong to do that. But IF that's the extent of it and IF she's genuinely remorseful then there's hope.

What does she think she is, a cat?

Young and not yet ready for the responsibility. Her parents it should be guided her, and watch that little baby. Or it might be sorry later.
