Police in Konosu, Saitama Prefecture, have arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed his parents at their home.
According to police, Masaki Yotsumoto, a vocational school student, attacked his 46-year-old mother and 51-year-old father with a knife at around 11 p.m. Tuesday, Sankei Shimbun reported. Yotsumoto’s mother managed to place an emergency phone call from their housing complex.
Police said Yotsumoto has remained silent since his arrest.
Police said his parents sustained serious injuries but their wounds are not life-threatening. Yotsumoto’s mother was quoted by police as saying she and her husband got into an argument with their son after speaking with him about his attitude toward life. The father was then immediately attacked with a knife, and the mother was slashed in the head while attempting to stop the altercation.

Pure speculation. We do not know any of this.

We don’t know the whole family story. However, my guess as a parent in Japan is the poor tike spent most of his life according to his parent’s expectations (study hard, cram school, take tests like no tomorrow, lots of memorization, without much of a social life). The pressure parents in this country put on their kids. What ever happened to good family vacations, making chocolate chip cookies together with mommy, and going to baseball games with mommy and daddy?

It used to be that a young person couldn't wait to leave home and make it on their own, and the parents would then be proud and have mutually enjoyable visits.
A generation or two of molly-coddled pampered self entitled spoiled brats now try to extend their childhoods indefinitely. And many end up as little more than reclusive parasites who end up attacking their host.

Sometimes saying nothing to the best alternative, at the age of 20 not much to be said to him anymore.

Sometimes one has to become wild himself to have a chance to leave a terror regime being trapped in. Yes, it’s very bad, but does anyone think he had a normal chance to build up an own life with house, car, family, wealth etc? That’s become sheer impossible for most young people at minimum wages working hard in chain restaurants or gas stations. And above you have to hear from your parents you’re a loser and won’t come near to what they could reach decades ago… Ok, many have an inner barrier to keep it out of turning violent or deadly. That guy’s barrier is just rather lower. And there are more and more like him out there, that’s sure.

Now that covid is on the way out, the news needs some juicy clickbait stories to keep people coming back

Sad for the parents. They raised this creature, and instead of a friend forever they get this.

It hasn't really gone well for anyone involved, has it?

When the parents told the son to get a real life he snapped and then remained silently because finally he did realize his future home jail!

Also, what of @Chikabun’s relevant questions and @oyatoi’s relevant observations?

Correction: “Intrafamilial Violence In Japan.” - Point taken @BobMacaroni and will ‘force it’ through the ‘auto-correct’ each time. In fairness, what limited data available was presented earlier by this user was deleted.
So Bob, what current NPA and/or Japanese Ministry of Justice links do You have “representative of family violence in Japan” ?
Chibakun
Is there really a rise in violence or did this kind of thing used to go unreported?
Bob Macaroni
First, what is this alarming trend? Where are the data you are using to make such a statement? A few selected articles in an online "news" website that are intended to trigger the predominantly foreign readership is unlikely to be representative of family violence in Japan. Second, you need to look up the difference between inter and intra.

Desperate and confusing times, indeed. It’s simple: 20 yr olds need to be in school, learning a trade and/or working AND 59 Yr olds need to be working outside the home, planning retirement and watching less Anime:

With Japan’s alarming, current trend of inter-familial violence this could have been much worse. - “Best Wishes!” for the parent’s speedy recovery.

Why?
Who's gonna pay his little bills?
Who's gonna wash his stained drawers?
Who's gonna cook his pathetic meals?
Clearly the kid wasn't thinking.
Fool.
