20-year-old woman arrested for abandoning body of newborn in park toilet

Police in Nishio, Aichi Prefecture, have arrested a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of abandoning the body of her newborn boy in a park toilet.

According to police, Yu Takimoto, a vocational school student, has admitted to leaving the body, with its umbilical cord still attached, in a plastic bag, in the toilet early on June 2, Sankei Shimbun reported. The woman told police she gave birth in the toilet.

The baby’s remains were found by a park maintenance employee at around 2:50 p.m. the same day. There were no external signs of injury on the body.

Police said Takimoto’s mother received a call from the vocational school reporting that she had not shown up that day. The mother went looking for her and found her in the park at around noon. She took her daughter to a hospital where doctors notified police that a woman had given birth but there was no baby with her.

Police waited until Takimoto recovered before arresting her.

Such a sad story, she’s so young and the poor baby. My prayers are for her and the baby. I hope the young lady gets the help and support to move beyond this tragedy.

The only real statement that can be made without all the facts, is that any way you look at this story, IT IS A VERY SAD ONE AT THAT.

How can anyone make an educated comment on this story when the story is incomplete?

And here I thought a day might pass in this nation when you don't hear about family killing each other, mom's murdering babies, kids murdering parents, etc.

Population size 120 million, remember? Surely you do not expect the newspapers about all the people that had a peaceful, uneventful day. Perspective.

doggar

t seems some of you have never seen an overweight person before.

Not many in Japan, and certainly not of the size required here. The story is not from America, remember?

Zaphod: "The mother did not know she was pregnant??"

That's always the excuse, anyway. See how much families take care and watch over each other?

I think people are assuming the woman began all this completely sane. She might not have been ever at all. Proper judgement depends on details we will never have.

There should be a better campaign -in all countries that have them- to educate the public about the baby drop-off Sally ports they have at fire stations, as well as about the adoption process.

That baby could have grown up in an adopted family and gone off to medical school then cured cancer.

And here I thought a day might pass in this nation when you don't hear about family killing each other, mom's murdering babies, kids murdering parents, etc. Nope. Hope this woman is locked up for life, but given where we are, she'll probably get a "she's suffered enough" and be let go to do it all again.

Wow. And from a man.

Sexist much?

What I dont understand is, that people around her, parents, friends, school mates must recognize that she is pregnant.

Why did nobody support her in giving birth and raise the baby?

Let’s pray for the soul of the baby boy whose life on earth was very short.

It’s murder!

What?

I am sure there are going to be a few people on J news make various comments about she's unfit to be a mother etc, but we don't know all of the facts yet, and I am not going to judge her. There must be a reason why she's tried to cover the birth up, may be she was sexually assaulted or had a one night stand, cant afford to bring the baby up or has no maternal instincts, and now she is embarrassed, or she might feel that she might bring shame on her family, either way she needs help, either in the form of medical attention and some help to get use to having a baby, it must have been a shock to her. in the above article it mentions that the baby was in a plastic bag, what it does not say is wether the baby is alive or not, I hope it is! I wish both of them a speedy recovery.
