Police in Shizuoka Prefecture have arrested a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of abandoning the body of her newborn baby girl on a tea farm in Makinohara in mid-March.

According to police, the suspect, Arina Masuda, has admitted to the charge of abandoning the body of her baby right after she was born, Sankei Shimbun reported. She was quoted as saying no one was with her when she gave birth.

The bag with the infant’s remains was discovered on the tea farm at around 11 a.m. on Thursday, police said.

Police said Masuda, who is studying to be a nurse at the University of Shizuoka, surfaced as a suspect after they made local inquiries.

Heart breaking!

This 'abandoning of a body' happens a lot in Japan, especially with babies. I'm sure the 'abandoning of a body' is only to ensure that, the murder statistics stay low because they are not counted as murders. It's easy to state 'safety japan' if you don't count all the murders. If you have a child at home with no intention of letting the baby live, it is murder. And, to make things worse, this mother is training to be a nurse. She should have known how to clear the airway and remove the afterbirth. It's murder!

Once it's clear that someone was murdered, the charge is changed to murder. Abandoning a body is the initial charge used to arrest them.

How can someone studying to help save lives take a life?

@Himajin and Educator60 - Read this again!

"If someone has a child at home with no intention of letting the baby live, it is murder."

These cases are not tried as murders!

And, Educator60 - Yes, these kinds of incidents are not unique to Japan, but the frequency is. I come from Australia where I'd read these kinds of articles once or twice a year, whereas, I read them 2 or 3 times a month in Japan.

This is very common in Japan. I don't understand how this girl could live a happy life after doing such a thing, even if not caught by the authorities. Very sad.

Still no discussion on how to prevent this kind of thing, huh ?

Anyone else see murder charges being laid in the future

What discussion there should be, "Bintaro"-dono? There is no other way to prevent it except raising the morality of the nation and providing deeper understanding of proper values to its citizens. I have no heard a thing about anyone doing so over the 6 years I am here. Probably because nothing efficient is being done. The government is playing "Imperial Time", no one else can force nationwide change in the education and upbringing of future generations. When someone who was supposed to make a Hippocratic oath, instead leaves own newborn baby to wither, you can without mistake call core red for the mental stability of the whole nation. Modernity brought Japanese moral decay: now it is all "just babies", "just responsibilities", "just respect", "just values". And there is no one to make an example for all those distraught, for Emperor is losing his own significance faster than new warfare vehicles are being constructed under the Abe's orders.

How many times do we have to have this conversation? The initial "abandonment of a body" charge will be changed to a more severe one after their investigation is complete.

Girl and boy must be educated seriously about important of life of new born baby and crime about murdering so called abandoning of new born baby in school as well as in university.

I have no doubt the baby was born alive and then died after abandoned and unattended for long hours.

Boy must understand about their responsibility and guilty of helping and encouraging girlfriend to abandon new born baby for to die by intentionally. It's a murder crimes.

PM Abe was just talking about Japanese women to given birth more baby.

 Does he know about how many young Japanese women abandoning new born babies every year? How many mothers took their children lives and suicide every year?

All tragedy is all preventable and they need help and education. Japanese Government must do something urgent for to prevent lose of innocent new born baby.

@Daniel Naumoff

I don't know... Baby hatch ? Sex education ? Better birth prevention ? Anything else that would give these women an alternative ?

This is a recurring theme so punishment only will not eliminate the problem. And just being outraged and saying "she's a monster" is useless. That's the easy part.

Now, why her and all the women in these stories do that ? Why aren't they just getting an abortion ? Are they all just terrible people ? Is it mental health ? Money problem ? What is it ?

Unwanted parenthood is a much larger problem anyway. So until the problems are addressed, these stories, and those of child abuse, murder suicide etc... will keep on happening.

I'm not sure what kind of "morals" or "values" you're talking about...

Do you have some statistics on killing by nurses worldwide?

@Educator60 - So his argument is about the frequency of mothers abandoning their new borns to death and the only response you have is what the statistics about nurses killing their new borns world wide? Dude he is talking about how mothers are killing their new borns more frequently in Japan than elsewhere.

I dumped her body because she was "stillborn" and got away with murdering a child who would have put a serious crimp in my future plans. But it's okay. I was really stressed and had no support, so covertly murdering my unwanted baby was my only possible choice.
