20-year-old woman found dead in bathroom of her apartment

12 Comments

Police in Tokyo are investigating the death of a 20-year-old woman who was found dead in the bathroom of her apartment.

According to police, Ruka Furuyama was found by her parents, who had a key to her apartment in Itabashi Ward, at around 3 p.m. Sunday when they came to visit her after not being able to contact her, Sankei Shimbun reported. They immediately called 110.

Police said Furuyama, a university student, was declared dead at the scene. They said she had bruises on her face and arms.

Furuyama lived alone and her parents last heard from her at around 10 p.m. on Jan 6. Police said they are examining street surveillance camera footage to try and determine who came in and out of the apartment building since then.

Police said the apartment showed no signs of having been broken into or ransacked.

Furuyama lived alone…

I have my doubts about that, and they also wouldn’t examine camera footage in such a case.

Times like these you must be more careful who you interact with. Just look at the news in Japan for the last five years or so.

Highly likely the police already know the name of the abusive boyfriend they are looking for. The one who killed her after being told she wanted to break up. "Examining street camera footage" is police talk for we are checking mobile phone data to get time and place evidence on our suspect but we don't want to tell the public that's how it works in case criminals start leaving their phones at home."

It could be carbon monoxide poisoning

@John Brown, would carbon monoxide poisoning cause bruises on her face and arms?

This, right before the Coming-of-Age day. This is so sad.

Do not understand your thinking.

With the cause of death not being in the article all comments are speculation or assumptions and allegations.

Its a tragedy and my sincere condolences for the deceased and grieving parents.

@Mr Kipling I partially agree with what you posted but perhaps it was not a bf. As we know she had bruises on her face and arms. This would indicate the person knew the attacker. Bruises on the arm would indicate the person trying to deflect blows to the face. The apartment shows no force entry. Keep in mind she was a student and many students now day are debt ridden, perhaps she was behind on paying back a loan she borrowed. I agree the police already has evidence it could be a abusive boyfriend or a angry debt collector they are looking for. The police just isn't releasing much information because I am sure they already have the street camera footage and possible mobile phone data. If they release further information this would perhaps make the suspect go on the run. Personally if it was the bf he would have probably already turned himself in, this makes me believe someone else is involved.

@Sven Asai

Not to make light of a tragic story, but if she had a live-in boyfriend, every old lady in the building would know all about it. They'd know what kind of pizza he gets delivered.
