200 panties found in underwear thief’s home

Police in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, have arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of stealing a woman’s underwear from the balcony of her apartment.

Police said they identified the suspect, Tsutomu Yamashita, who lives in Oharu, Aichi Prefecture, after an analysis of street surveillance camera footage, Tokai TV reported. Police said he was arrested on Wednesday and a search of his apartment turned up 200 panties.

Yamashita, a company employee, is accused of stealing one pair of panties from the first-floor balcony of a woman in Nakagawa Ward, Nagoya, in mid-May.

Police said there have been five reports of women’s underwear thefts in the area since June. Police said Yamashita has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying he got a thrill out of collecting women’s underwear.

With all the hyberbole going on in the media these days, I'm surprise the title is not:

> "200 panties found in underwear thief’s home: Democracy in danger!" (#sarcasm)

Sadly I wouldn't have been surprised.

I just watch a "professor" tell a US congressman he is responsible for killing Transgender because he asked if by "people that can't have/deliver a baby" she ( the professor) meant women.

Her Reply "your transphobic remark is killing Transgender people"

So I really if the title was what you joked, I wouldn't have been surprised.

I wonder if they go up in value over time, or perhaps fresher the better. I wonder if there is some otaku black market or deep web market for those things. Super creepy

Seriously are you really not aware!

It has been know all over the world, not just Japan though Japan is the top place.

Vending machines for used panties in Akihabara right infront of the station can't miss it if you turn in the direction of the police station, it shocked me the first time I saw it nearly 30 years ago now it is just part of the strange background noise of living in Japan.

Heck even CSI Las Vegas did an episode on the subject.

I was told that because if this women don't want 1st floor apartments.

@diagon alley

At least he was stealing clean ones

How on earth do you know that the 200 pairs he stole were clean when he stole them ?

That would be "Pantomathic" :)

I love women and all but no matter how long I live, I will never understand this behavior.

To "Steve " above

"Whack job " as a description may be tautological.

I wonder if he yells “yoinks” every time he steals one…..

He got a thrill by stealing underwear, not by asking anyone out.

There's plenty of them out there.

Sadly, this whacko is not alone. There are way too many of these panty thief whackos in Japan.

I'm not condoning such freaky hobbies, but how about just buying one from the department store? You can choose the design and size if you're so inclined to wear them. I think I remember a previous crime article here that a guy would replace the shoes it stole from women with new pairs.
