Police in Hofu, Yamaguchi Prefecture, have arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of abusing his three-month-old daughter.

According to police, Naoya Murata, who is a sheet metal worker, violently pinched his daughter's cheeks numerous times between July 21 and July 29, eventually causing bleeding inside her mouth, Sankei Shimbun reported.

Murata was quoted by police as saying he lost his temper because his daughter wouldn't stop crying.

Police said doctors also discovered the child had suffered an injury to her cranium and they are questioning Murata over whether he has abused his daughter on other occasions.

In Japan 21 years old is a minor .... !!!!

No it isn't.

A slap on the head seems to be normal and accepted here. I have had many arguments about this with my Japanese wife. There is no need, I simply place my hand on my child's head, big warm hand sends enough of a message.

I wish people were required a License before having kids.

Another example of propagating the species without brains. The guy should be castrated.

What could cause someone to get upset with or at a 3-month-old enough to abuse him or her? Sickening!

I see a lot of this abuse right before my very eyes. They take their toddlers and babies alike to inappropriate places, naturally the kids get cranky and the parents gets irritated and starts verbally abusing with punches on the head. Even when the kids want to go to the toilet, I've seen others rushing their kids telling them to hurry up and get done with their business and a punch in the head. One time I was questioned as to why I was staring over the situation, I just told her to shut up her mouth and she left mumbling more words to herself. It's so sad how this kids are being treated. I wish I could start all over again taking care of my grown up children! I had fun attending to them prioritizing their schedules before mine and my hubby.

As has been said so many time before, babies cry for a reason - not for "nothing"... Instead of abusing a 3 month old, check if she/he needs "changing" if he/she is hungry or even just needs a little "comforting"... It's unbelievable the number of times we read such stories here...

Some people just don't deserve to have children...

Again? Why don't these immature, anime-obsessed little brats think about their parental responsibilities more, before they have children?

there is a big difference between a slap on the head for kids who misbehave and a man who punches his 3-month-old child for crying. corporal punishment isn't the issue here.

@gogogo exactly what could the government have done to prevent this?

@trevor a lot of "smart" parents also abuse their kids. why do people assume that only uneducated people have problems with domestic violence?

FizzBit- an injury to the baby's cranium= skull fracture. Slapping or punching a three month old baby is unacceptable and quite frankly he is lucky the child didn't die. It is child abuse and it would not surprise me one bit if the baby ends up with shaken baby syndrome or a form of epilepsy caused by head injuries. There are many other side effects from blows to the head such as detached retinas that cause blindness and busted ear drums that lead to deafness. These are consequences of abusing babies, toddlers and children.

The man needs some jail time, counseling and parenting classes. He also should not be allowed to retain custody of the baby.

Babies cry, that is a known fact. Parents have the duty to properly take care of the child. It is helpless and completely reliant on the caregivers.

The poor baby probably cried whenever her idiotic father was around. Of course they can recognize faces and voices and thus those who hurt them or scare them. Let's hope she'll fully recover and the father gets punished appropriately.

This is why I'm adopting 10 yrs or above. I have a short temper and I wouldn't be mentally fit to handle a newborn up to 5 yrs roughy.

I STRONGLY recommend you never have children.

violently pinched his daughter’s cheeks numerous times

and it didn't work???

It's almost like this happens every day in a japanese residence. Sad for the infant because the baby didn't ask to be born into this life.

You need a Licience to drive a car, but not to have children...

Absoutely, absolutely sickening. Just take the kid out to somewhere, hug her gently.

Much of these people don't have love anymore. This is what happens when everyone "tries to survive", and they don't notice relationships are much more worth than earning a little penny just to pay a food or tax.

If that's the case, it would be ill-advised to adopt any child regardless of age. Just because a child is over a certain age, doesn't mean that they are easier to raise. Older children have a set of their own issues that you have to deal with. If you have a problem managing your anger to the point that you "think" you might cause physical or mental abuse on a child, then I would suggest you get a house plant instead. You would not be fit to be a parent.

I hate this, its daily news and ignored by the government. Instead of cracking down on lighters in your pocket perhaps something in this area would save more lives!

Obviously standard operation procedure 101: bouncing the baby at arms length wasn't working.

No skin contact, of course - mustn't make 'em weak.

Man you guys are harsh!

Tell that to the child he abused

The child won't remember it.

How do you know? Perhaps the baby will grow up with a pathological fear of having her face touched

It's so sad that many people who are seemingly NOT ready to be a parent actually be one without taking thoughts into what it'd mean to raise a child.

have a short temper and I wouldn't be mentally fit to handle a newborn up to 5 yrs roughy. They wouldn't be safe.

You lack the patience and temperament for children and pets. Hopefully you will be honest about your shortcomings when interviewed by the adoption agency.

Any man that hits a woman or abuses a child is not a real man. He's a coward.

Now he has been named and shamed maybe some1 will pay him a little visit and do more than pinch his checks.

The young man is just out of touch with reality. These things happen. I'm sure he'll learn a good lesson from this. Man you guys are harsh!

You're %100 right.

This is why I'm adopting 10 yrs or above. I have a short temper and I wouldn't be mentally fit to handle a newborn up to 5 yrs roughy. They wouldn't be safe. This is my own observation, I can babysit for a couple hours, but Gavin to deal with them 24/7 would make me lose my temper. I actually want to be sterilized and adopt. I was adopted so I know how to deal with the problems adopted kids have. I have them with my own adopted mom. That man should of been evaluated if he was capable of having kids that young. I think that's the only way to stop all child abuse, hopefully.

Tell that to the child he abused

The child won't remember it. And he will get the help he really needs. Don't over dramatize it.
