Police in Maizuru, Kyoto Prefecture, have arrested a 21-year-old woman on suspicion of abusing her 4-month-old son at their home last September. The child remains in a coma, one year on, police said.
According to police, the suspect, Miyu Kira, a part-time worker lives with her parents. Last Sept 28 at around 4 p.m., she is accused of slamming the baby's head against the floor, Fuji TV reported. The baby fell unconscious. Kira called 119 and said there was something wrong with her baby. Kira's parents were out at the time.
The child was taken to hospital where he fell into a coma due to acute subdural hematoma as a result of his injuries. The hospital notified police about a case of possible child abuse.
He has so far shown no signs of regaining consciousness, a hospital spokesperson said.
Police said Kira, who was arrested on Saturday, has admitted to abusing the child because he wouldn't stop crying. Authorities did not say why it has taken one year to arrest her.

She WAS responsible for the act. She had the kid. What she WASN'T ready for was the parenting required after bringing the child into the world. Infants have only one means of expression when something is wrong, they cry. As a parent she should have known this and certainly she would have been experiencing it for the previous four months. I think a psychiatrist would find that something else affecting this woman was the actual trigger for the assault because otherwise the child wouldn't have made it past 1 month before being irreparably harmed by his mother for "crying".

Wow not only does the baby need a lot of prayers and help but its obvious the mom needs help also! Don't get in the sack if you can't be responsible for the act!

Agree with Smithinjapan... This country is SICK when it comes to the time parents do in Japan.
Kill your kid? No problem just cry and say you were stressed.

I worry that if the boy ever wakes up the damage of being in a coma during those formative years will be irreperable. There's a chance he may never learn to speak, walk or eat correctly because of the total loss of sensory input during such crucial formative years, emotional and social development notwithstanding :( Absolutely appauling that it took an entire year to jail the woman too. Despicable.

It took them a year to arrest her, and you can bet it'll take a judge five minutes to give her the suspended sentence Japan is so famous for when it comes to parents abusing and even killing their kids.

That's what babies are supposed to do- cry. Stupid cow.
