21-year-old woman arrested for sending hundreds of nude selfies to woman in her 70s

When hearing about a story involving stalking or sexual harassment, it’s hard not to assume the typical pattern of a man victimizing a woman. However, every once in a while a case occurs to remind us that it can happen anywhere and with anyone.

On Feb 10, police responded to a complaint of a woman who barged into a restaurant in Nara City. After the officers interviewed the suspect, it was learned that she had worked there from the spring of 2019 to about February of last year. As a result of this incident, the woman was arrested on suspicion of violating the Stalker Control Act because she was said to be infatuated with a former co-worker there, a woman in her 70s.

The following day, the former coworker went to the police to present further evidence: 293 messages on her mobile phone which contained nude photos of the suspect as well as other “obscene” content. The mails were sent between Sept 23 and Oct 15, which works out to an average of about 13 a day.

In custody the suspect reportedly admitted to the acts and told police, “I still like her. I sent a large amount of mails because it felt good to spoil her.”

With her admission only serving to make the case more convoluted, readers of the news were completely at a loss about this incident.

“Huh…. Wha?!”

“Hmm. I’d say she more than ‘likes’ her.”

“It’s like one of those yuri stories, but this is… um… I don’t know. I have to think about it.”

“I think it’s great that people can find love regardless of age and gender, but everyone still needs to be aware of other people’s feelings and personal space.”

“I don’t get this at all.”

“Huh. Love is very powerful.”

“I think we’ve come a long way in accepting different types of love, but this is still shocking.”

“It’s a typo, right? In the news….”

“It’s really nice that such a unique love bloomed, but too bad that this went horribly wrong.”

While many readers appeared to have drawn their own conclusions about what happened, the nature of these women’s relationship is still very unclear. According to NHK, the suspect also told police: “My mother didn’t show me much affection growing up, but [the victim] taught me kindly and I grew to like her.”

The fact that she is now charged with stalking would suggest that her love was not reciprocated. In fact, the woman in her 70s also reportedly contacted police in back the spring of 2020 about another naked photo incident, after which police issued a warning to the suspect over the phone.

She can send them to me instead if she likes.

This is not funny, it’s sexually harassing an old woman.

“Huh…. Wha?!”

“I don’t get this at all.”

My feelings exactly.

She can send them to me instead if she likes.

Same here.

I think that most of us probably find this to be odd, and therefore perhaps don't take it all that seriously, is a big problem. One of the commenters in the article said it best:

“I think it’s great that people can find love regardless of age and gender, but everyone still needs to be aware of other people’s feelings and personal space.”

Stalking is stalking, the age, sex and orientation doesn't matter.

The young woman definitely needs help.

I have no words.....

If she is a lesbian, she is called 老け専 (fuke-sen) in the gay world. It means you are attracted to an old person, and you like a grandpa or grandma figure. There are lots of types like that.

This one is really rather confusing and sick...lol

Yes, she's definitely misguided. Maybe her concept of affection was based on her past relationships that maybe taught her, "if I sent these naked pictures of me she would eventually notice me" or something along these lines.

I don't get her reasoning though, I mean why would you send naked pictures to your mother figure?

"She can send them to me instead if she likes."

I suggest you don't say something like that at work. You may be force to resign.

More ‘stranger than fiction’ news coming from Japan.

Professional therapy required.

Wonder what her grandmother thinks?

Just when I thought I finally understood women in Japan. I guess I don't. Very creepy.

I grew up watching the Brady Bunch. So, this story is not within my realm of understanding.

“It’s really nice that such a unique love bloomed..."

Only a total weirdo would say this. One-sided stalking and sending unsolicited nudes is hardly an example of "love blooming".

The young woman is clearly a head case.

What? This is bunny boiler grade stuff!

Actually, I can relate to this. I had an ex who liked to send me "multimedia" on LINE of her jousting the unicorn. Very noice, you might say, but she liked sending them while I was on the jam-packed 06:54! Lord, how my cheeks burned with shame. :-(

""When hearing about a story involving stalking or sexual harassment, it’s hard not to assume the typical pattern of a man victimizing a woman. ""

Typical stereo type comment,

Women Victimize men just as bad and in many cases worse, but the stereo type like in this case refuses to acknowledge this fact , and continue to look the way while men are being Abused, Harassed and even killed by their Female partners and others like them.

What a strange statement, speak for yourself. I have had experiences with Japanese ex girlfriends of stalking and harassment and I'm sure many other guys on here have.

Even her older sister didn’t believe her but, in the end, she was vindicated.

Jan was ‘not making it up’; it turns out there really was a “George Glass”.

That’s all we can relate for you @Michael Machida 5:23 JST Hope you can understand.

Well, imagine if little Cindy had the hots for Alice.

Or perhaps Alice's mother.

Gender is not the issue here. This is: ...‘*special’;... ‘island country’;...’3rd largest economy in the world***’ but**,

... we can’t openly talk about “Mental Illness” here.

Her admission was convoluted” - No, her admission is ‘delusional’.

Her behavior is ‘obsessive’: “I still like her!” Even though the victim needs the police to intervene.

“The NPA says the number of accused stalkers receiving rehab reached a record high in 2019

with 824 cases nationwide...634 subjects, more than 70% refused medical exams,

....reasons included denying they had a psychological problem or stating they had already received therapy.

and, for the rest: ...of 124 people examined: 66 remained in treatment;

38 withdrew from treatment, and only 20 were considered rehabilitated after completion.

10 people returned to their stalking behavior.

Wow.

This is sexual harassment. It happened to me, from a coworker, who was at least 10 yrs older. She was new, so I was nice and helpful.

Then the emails started. I asked her to stop on the 3rd day. No confusion. Clearly.

Then the phone calls started - both at home and work. I asked her to stop. Took the employee handbook over, highlighted the sexual harassment paragraphs, said she was doing that to me. Paid extra to get caller-ID.

Then she showed up outside my home at 1am and called. I suppose she thought I was up for a booty call?

The next work day I report her to her boss and provided proof of the problem.

She kept emailing, making graphic sexual suggestions. Assuming I liked what she suggested.

Reported her again to her boss with the latest emails a few days later.

She was moved to a different building, her contract was not renewed, and I never heard from her again.

All of this sounds harmless, but it did raise my anxiety at work and every time the phone rang. Nobody should need to go through that. Nobody, but especially an older woman who was just nice to someone as a friend.

There wasn't any love here. There was infatuation. Love is 2-way.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Wow! Never heard of this in my life. Wonder if the old lady provoked it then got nervous.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

I would describe it as infatuation. Infatuation is a powerful and intense feeling one gets over another person. However, it's usually temporary. Apparently this is an exception.

Didn't Greg and Missus Brady once go on a date?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Is it really that hard to use the block feature on an SNS or email?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Guess the old lady wasn't tech savvy enough to block the sender. Makes sense considering her advanced age.

Good on her for reporting it to the police!

I will withhold all judgment until I see all the evidence.

I am repulsed by nude pictures of a 21 year old woman...................

has never been said before in REALl LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think there is much more to this story than the reader is being told.

This is nothing but obssession and harassment. That young woman needs to learn that no means NO.
