22-year-old man arrested for fatal abuse of 6-month-old son

Police in Osaka on Thursday arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of fatally abusing his six-month-old son at their apartment last December.

According to police, Daichi Matsuzaki, a part-time worker, abused his son at their apartment in Yodogawa Ward between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Dec 17, Fuji TV reported. At the time, Matsuzaki was at home alone with the child and his older son, 2. His then wife, 22, was away at work.

When his wife returned home, she noticed something wrong with their six-month-old son and called 119. The child was taken to hospital where doctors said he was suffering from a blood clot on the brain caused by a severe head injury. The child died three weeks later.

The hospital notified police about a case of possible child abuse.

Matsuzaki, who has denied the charge, was quoted by police as saying he did nothing to hurt his son. He said the child fell off the sofa while sleeping and started crying, and that he tried to soothe him.

deja vu anyone, japan its time to start teaching your males how to control emotions or this manchild mania will never stop.

While it is possible the child fell off the sofa, it is unlikely the fall would cause severe head trauma (unless he landed head first on a lego block and the sofa is a meter of the ground). It should be no surprise a gutless baby abuser does not have the guts to admit to the abuse.

Love the way the comments imply that this is a uniquely Japanese problem.

@PerformingMonkey - Love the way the comments imply that this is a uniquely Japanese problem.

Actually, the comments don't imply it is a uniquely Japanese problem. The comments state that, child abuse is on the rise in Japan and very little is being to combat the problem. However, there is a callousness and cowardliness in child abuse in Japan that is 'uniquely Japanese'. Child abuse cases are reported many times every week and a lot of them end in death of the child. Punching, kicking, burning, neglecting, starving, locking on balconies, in cages and in garbage bins are very common and callous scenarios in Japanese child abuse cases.

How often is this happening now?!?!

Condoms people. Use them!

And most of these child abuse news start with "a twenty-something parent". Now I see why late marriage is actually good for the Japanese- they don't seem to be able to handle babies before that. Some can't handle them even after 30, but twenty-somethings as parents is like a death sentence.

You have to understand the system here. Arrested means that he will be charged, as the cops do not officially arrest someone until they are going to be charged.

There is a big difference here between being taken into custody and arrested. And the two are not the same.

It's a problem of translation.

You can be detained, or taken into custody, without being charged for roughly 3 weeks, after that, depending upon the circumstances, the cops have to officially "charge" you or arrest you, otherwise they have to let you go. Also the cops here tend NOT to officially arrest someone unless they are fairly confident of getting a conviction. Hence the dependency on "confessions" that a gotten while being held in custody.

Death of the baby may have really been from the fall. Let’s not jump into conclusions here.

How tall was this sofa then? A metre? And what is the floor made of in the flat? Concrete?

Shaken baby syndrome has certain markers you don't find in a fall. Bleeding in the eyes is a dead giveaway, and I bet they found that in this poor child.

As a father of a one year old. Stories like this make sick to my stomach and enrage me at the same time. I have to ask myself why am I reading it? I hope the Father serves hard time and hard labor for this. Revolting this happens in this wonderful country!

It’s got nothing to do with being a 20yr old.

If you’ve read the news there are mothers in their 30s and 40s who abuse and sometimes kill their kids.
