22-year-old man arrested for fatally stabbing young brother

Police in Fujimi, Saitama Prefecture, said Sunday they have arrested a 22-year-old man for fatally stabbing his 20-year-old brother at their home.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 5 a.m. Saturday. TBS reported that the suspect, identified as Mirai Fukuda, a part-time worker, stabbed his brother Teppei in the chest as he slept.

The two brothers lived with their father who called 119 after being awoken by the attack. Teppei was taken to hospital where he died about 90 minutes later, police said.

Police said Teppei had been attending a university in Tokyo and had lived on campus until this month when he returned to live at home on Jan 1.

Mirai has admitted to stabbing his brother after he returned home from his part-time job, police said, but has so far given no motive for the attack. His father said there had been animosity between the two brothers, TBS reported.

That's two for Saitama so far today, and already how many so far this year?

RIP to the 20-year-old kid who was probably just moving home to save some money while attending school. Quite the homecoming. Hope the older brother gets a full ride in prison and can every day wonder if the 'animosity' was worth it. No doubt it was one of those 'I wanted to see what it was like', or, 'he was always complaining about the noise of my cell phone', or, 'he wouldn't pass me the remote' excuses.

Sounds like Cain and Abel.

Oh my dog! That's one person stabbed by another family member every day for the last week!

Older brother is a part-time worker. Younger brother attended university. Older brother is jealous of younger brother's relative success in life. Like the coward he is, older brother stabs him in the chest while he sleeps.

...sad that he had to die at the hands of his oniisan

Moral and ethical education should be made part of the educational curriculum at the elementary school level for the children . Such education at the early stage will certainly help them to become good citizens to lead a peaceful and harmonious life and help them to adjust better in family and society .

Since you always think Saitama is a war zone, I bet you by end of the year it won't even be in the Top 5 Prefectures for crime. I put ¥10000 on it.

DaDude: " I bet you by end of the year "

And how's it doing so far THIS year, DaDude? Click on the crime section and tell us how many of the 9 articles are based in Saitama. The answer, since I already know it, is four, and of those four one involves three crimes, so that's seven in total in less than seven days, and one of the stories is an international one. Saitama is seconded by the capital city of the nation, Tokyo. I don't think Saitama's a war zone, and I'm sure it's full of wonderful people and lovely sights, but there's a reason why so many people post 'Saitama again' on such threads (admittedly it's only been me so far save for one thread), and sadly because so many crimes -- and ones like stabbing of a seeing-eye dog or visually impaired girl getting dropped kick also put Saitama on the map for lowering the bar -- this is what a number of people know the prefecture for. Now, I'm HOPING I'm wrong and perhaps before a week has passed only two or three more Saitama incidents will have occurred if any, but when I first posted 'Saitama again' today I had already missed four of the seven crimes since the first, so...

Terribly senseless and tragic! The father lost two sons. RIP younger son.

Reading Japan Today, you might get the impression that crime is out of control in Japan. They report every serious crime in Japan (pop. over 126 million). In any other country, except for most horrific ones, such crimes are usually only reported locally.
