22-year-old woman arrested for burying infant’s body in garden of vacant house

Police have arrested a 22-year-old woman from Kanagawa Prefecture on suspicion of abandoning the corpse of her one-month-old daughter, by burying it in the garden of a vacant home in Nagano Prefecture last week.

Police said Satomi Takato, a part-time worker from Yokohama City, is accused of burying the infant’s body in the garden of the house in Tomi City sometime between May 1 and May 4, Sankei Shimbun reported. The house is Takato's former family residence and has been vacant since her father died.

The child’s body was discovered by a man tending to the garden at the request of the home’s owner at around 4:50 p.m. on May 4. He spotted the child’s leg sticking out from the soil and called police.

Police said Takato has admitted to the charge. Police said an autopsy revealed the child had been dead for several days before the body was found.

Again with the vitriol and condemnation. Surely what she did is heinous. Makes you wonder what was going through her head.

But just dismissing her as crazy, or evil is too simplistic and in itself arrogant and vile too, specially if you have never had kids, it's a blessing, or an unending battle depending on the attitude and the environment.

She gave birth to her, so at least for an instant she thought she could make, otherwise she could have had aborted. The questions are too many in all the cases being reported daily. And society should bear the blunt of answering them. Japanese mothers still bear a huge burden where males still do next to nothing to help at home or child rearing. And in Japan there is ZERO guidance for post-partum depression to mothers, let alone to husbands or relatives.

In every case, questions like, was she a single mother?|where was the father? where were the grandparents? did she ever voice her struggles, troubles, depressions, etc?

A woman's world can literally go upside down 180 degree switch with motherhood. Not everybody is ready. Pregnancy prevention is the easiest solution. The correct solution should be education about parenting and motherhood and women psychology as relates to physiological changes of pregnancy and motherhood.

Spread these messages and not your vitriol that helps nothing nor makes the world any better. Just shut up.

The charge is corpse abandonment for disposing of it herself. From the sound of it, it was already dead at that point.

In Japan this is a charge they put on suspects to give them 23 days while the suspect is locked up to "gather evidence" on the actual charge they are intending to press. At the end of the 23 day initial detention, they then lay the actual charge on the suspect. The charge you see above is the one they put on pretty much ever murder suspect before they charge them with murder.

There seems to be a lot of speculation that she buried the child alive, which is not what the article said. The charge is corpse abandonment for disposing of it herself. From the sound of it, it was already dead at that point.

Not nearly enough details to speculate on what happened. Baby could have died for any number of reasons and she panicked, maybe thought she'd be blamed for its death. She's extremely young, way too young to have kids, and may not have a lot of support around her. We know at least her father passed already as well so she may not even have much immediate family.

What a savage. Lock her up!

There are so many couples who can’t have children and want to adopt. Why commit infantcide? Put the child up for adoption for Christ’s sake!

Seriously, how many stories in the last week have there been of Japanese mothers killing their children and attempting to kill themselves? What’s wrong with them

The article does not say she killed it.

No one knows what is going on in the mind of a person who takes the life of another. I am willing to bet 95% has to do with MENTAL ILLNESS that no one wants to discuss or deal with. Today's environment is not nice and if you don't get a head start in life you are pretty much doomed by the time you get 15 years of age. The reality sets in as a child go from being dependent on their parents and then facing a real world the same one their parents are perhaps struggling in.

I wish Japan had better programs and education for single mothers and mental health. Need to target Junior high as they do in North America. A mother killing its own child is not in healthy state of mind and very sad to see.

Poor little child. There are orphanages still in Japan, she could have transferred the girl to one of them and let her live.

Another crazy Japanese mother, it's getting out of control. Unbelievable.
