22-year-old woman arrested for stealing ¥9 mil from 51-year-old man

Police in Ayase, Kanagawa Prefecture, have arrested a 22-year-old woman on suspicion of stealing 9 million yen from a 51-year-old man she was dating.

According to police, Hina Anzai, an office worker, stole the money from her acquaintance, who is a security guard, sometime between 10:30 p.m. on March 10 and 8 a.m. the following morning, Kyodo News reported. Police said she had spent the night in his house in Yokohama’s Kanagawa Ward.

On March 11, the man bid farewell to Anzai and went to work. Upon returning home on March 12, he discovered that 9 million yen was missing from where he had stored it. He immediately messaged Anzai on a social networking site (SNS) about the missing cash but got no response. The man subsequently filed a criminal report with police.

Anzai and the man met about three years ago through a dating website. She had stayed overnight with him twice, the second time being the night of the theft.

Police quoted the man as saying he had recently told Anzai that he possessed a large amount of cash.

But what i don't understand is why they have to name the suspect while kept the man name hidden. Isn't this a bit bias?

No. The guy's been the victim of a fraud involving (perhaps) intimacy. Let him have his privacy.

Treating men like ATMs is rampant. I wish these women could have some pride and sense of agency.

He should have deposited the nine million yen in his bank account instead of storing it at home.

If she smart she should deny it. I assume the cash was obtained illegally by the 51 year old. He has to prove where the cash came from and if illegally obtain he is well and truely stuff, caught inside with a broken leg lease as the saying goes.

If you were smart you would not be making such accusations thinking that you are safe hiding behind your JT user name.

caught inside with a broken leg lease as the saying goes.

What saying is that?

Oddly, Ayase in northeast Tokyo (Adachi-ku) and Ayase (same spelling, same kanji) southwest of Tokyo between Yokohama and Atsugi both have a reputation for being neighborhoods with statistically more crime.

I don't want this guy in charge of anything dealing with security around me. Loose lips allow others to steal your chips.

She "stayed overnight" 2 times in the three years since they met..........right..........

And was this before or AFTER he mentioned the wad of cash?

Well, looks like she only came back for one thing, and it wasn't your charm.

Sorry brutha, but you just got jacked, and it's your own fault.

Has the man never heard of a bank? Who keeps nine million yen stashed in their house unless they obtained it illegally? Fishy...

As for the woman, well come now. A 22-year-old dating a guy more than half her age? Honey, she was only looking for one thing and it sure wasn't love.

Dating someone 30 years older met through a dating website.Well, it was clearly not for love

Whenever I hear these stories of people being robbed of the large sums of cash they keep at home, I just don't understand their logic. Why would someone keep such large sums in such an unsafe place? Not only is it vulnerable to theft, but also fire, earthquake, and/or flood.

At 51 years old, this particular victim has no reason to fear the banks, as he didn't live through the depression or war. If one is going to do something so foolish, at least use a safe that is fire-and-waterproof, and bolted securely to the floor.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

He should date someone near his age and be more careful next time.

Should? Why is that?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Like I assume illegal and goes to the police. She under arrest for Suspicion. So the Police have to find out if the cash was actually there to be stolen then the blokes has to have legal recorded data to prove it and withdrawals o 50,000 over time isn’t going to cut it. So I assume he have to say good bye to the cash and the girl go free and maybe kick off dating sites.

I don’t get why these idiots don’t keep their money in a bank. Yeah, Japanese banks have terrible interest rates but the banks themselves aren’t going to steal your money. But if you’re dating someone 30 years younger than you, you can’t be the sharpest tool in the shed.

A 22-year-old dating a guy more than half her age?

He was 51, not 11. Then again, 51 is more than 11. So, you're technically correct.

Autocorrect. Cheers for pointing it out. Wish this site would let us edit our comments.

My Partners is 34 We been together for 10 year meet her parents and brothers all except that I am 61, 26 years her senior. We are very happy her family is happy so what has age different real got to do with the relationship. Small mind have to see thing in a conventional way for it to compute. We met at my favor Onsen.

Difficult to prove, if he really possessed all that money at home and she really has stolen all of it. Storing in bank accounts is also no option here, because you won’t such easily get a 30-yr younger one to your home then, right? lol

No, the best thing is, you do a little more effort and take notes of your cash bills’ numbers or make some photo snapshots of them and the storage place, but mind to not publish them on your social networks. (I guess, I had to add that, otherwise a certain percentage will do, just to generate the next bunch of groupies visiting their sugar daddy.)

Sugar babies are not free. I think she likely earned it.

It's called tax evasion

Joanne

Some people have a fear of banks so can’t blame them.

It's an irrational fear. So, sure I can.

Imagine if suddenly your bank ceases to operate anymore then what will you do in that situation?

Do you really think MUFG, Mizuho, Sumitomo, or Japan Post is suddenly going to disappear with your money?

The Government won’t reimburse your money for sure!

Yes they will for sure.

Japan has a government agency called DIC, whose sole job is to reimburse depositors in case of bank failure. The US has a similar agency called FDIC. The UK has the FSCS. I'm surprised you are not familiar with these agencies.

I’m guessing the reason she spent two nights there is because she didn’t find the money the first night.

They've met 3 years ago. That means when she was 19. And he was in his 40's which means she was underage. Will he be charged for that crime?

What crime are you talking about?

@John-san, that’s great that you’ve made it work with your girl. I’m 34 and, personally, I can’t even have a conversation with a girl in her 20’s. It’s like dating a child. I had a date with a 20yo girl recently. She didn’t disclose her age until later but it was too creepy because she was only 7 years older than my kid. Broke it off. I’d rather date an older woman so I don’t feel like a pedophile.

Its pretty clear the girl wasn’t looking for love either. The term ‘sugar daddy’ springs to mind.

Why? One's bank balance is not taxed.

LMFAO Rule #1 Never tell someone how much money you have Rule #2 Never show money. On March 11, the man not ONLY bid farewell to Anzai and went to work. He also bid farewell to his money and went back to make more. Basically he let a stranger into his home that he thought he knew. Perhaps she played the game of hide and seek. Its the power of the "P"!! Money makes people do crazy things.

Sometimes can be hard to tell the age with these girls

If she would had taken her time, she could had asked for smaller "payments" in exchange for dating her

Hiro - Actually saving that much as a security guard takes a lot of effort and time.

There is nothing in the article that states he saved it. Think about it. He's a security guard. Why would he keep that much money in cash in his house and not in a bank? Undeclared income? Illgotten gains? The police should not only be looking into her theft, but also how he came to have so much cash in his house. A security guard's salary is not very high.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

And u invited the theft to sleep with you. Guess she already spends that money on online shopping.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Wow, shocked at how many people seem to think 9m yen is a lot of money. It is, of course, too much to keep in cash at home, but most 51 year olds have vastly more than 9m in savings.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

He did hear the price to pay due to his age. So she handed the money by herself. What is wrong ?

Really, how do you prove the cash money is yours (video needed but that is not stated in article) ?

And giving names on JT just for suspicion ? Guilty until proven innocent way of thinking.

By the way, he could claim 9, 90 or 900 million yen stoeln from him. Wvat are the proofs ?

That is why banks have been created (Not that bank system is perfect but at least I never heard one has lost money if money just stayed on a bank account).

Sugar daddy may have paid high price, or not.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

So almost everyone commenting here and also the cops take it for granted that the man had actually 9 million yen and she stole it! Anyone can claim anything these days!!!

It could have easily been a lower amount and the man lied. Or it could have been that she didn’t want to be around him anymore so he made up the whole theft scheme to get revenge. If he really had 9 million yen in cash then source of the money doesn’t really matter ( could have been illegally obtain or saved up over the years ). Some people have a fear of banks so can’t blame them. Imagine if suddenly your bank ceases to operate anymore then what will you do in that situation? The Government won’t reimburse your money for sure! So blaming someone as not to put their money in the bank isn’t right. I myself have a fear of this and to counter this have spread all my finances with 5 different banks here and abroad.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Money is just a material object. Life goes on. But if she poisoned or stabbed him to death, life for won’t go on.

Actually saving that much as a security guard takes a lot of effort and time. Hope he at least see some of it back. Clearly the woman was a gold digger. She date him when she was 19 if they really met 3 years ago. He should date someone near his age and be more careful next time.

He immediately announced it on a social media platform that women less that half his age can date him and take lots of his money.

He didn't have her cell number ?

They met through a dating site but they are only acquaintances that sometimes spend the night together.
