Any wagers on how light a sentence he'll get? Presumably less than the 8 years they gave a murderer who killed her daughter (from a story from a few days ago).

He does not qualify as a person (human being), let alone a parent.

Maybe I come from a different world but what is with the mother working an overnight shift being that she has a 1 month old? That is when a lot of babies are at their hungriest.

I know working may be the only option if times are tough but do it in the daytime and have the baby go to nursery school.

Many people don't have the luxury of a choice. It's extremely hard to get into a nursery in many parts of the country. One would hope babies would be safe to be taken care of by their fathers at night while the mother works, though as this story shows that's not always the case.

This child's life has barely just begun and this selfish failure of a human being took away her chances because he got frustrated about her crying? That's what baby's do! Surely you didn't think it was going to be a walk in the park raising a child?

Besides, babies don't cry for no reason. Rather than just trying to comfort her to stop her crying, why didn't you try and find out what it was that was making her cry?

Poor thing, may you R.I.P and may he R.I.H (Rot In Hell). No doubt he'll get the usual slap-on-the-wrist sentence parents get in Japan for murdering their own flesh and blood; like that woman who got only 8 years for beating her daughter to death with a golf club.

I had a colicky daughter who constantly cried no matter what I did, but I never thought to hit her....That is so barbaric! What an animal. When I got frustrated, I either passed her to the wife, or I would just let her cry until she fell asleep. Sometimes that's all it takes. Killing and abuse should never be an option.

wish he covered his ears instead of covering the baby's mouth.. i understand that there are times when babies cry, cry and cry more.. and you get frustrated and tired, but i hope people know, that it is okay to put a baby in a crib or perhaps car seat (in the house not in a car) and leave the baby for a few minutes and you go out of the room to calm down.. especially if the baby was only one month, she would not be able to get out of the crib/car seat by herself..

it's easy to blame on young parents for stuff like this, but blaming wouldn't change anything (even though I do believe he needs to be punished for what he did). EDUCATION is so important...

I don't think anyone wants to do this. But you don't seem to understand the concept that some people have no other options. Not everyone is born into prosperous circumstance.

You're the one who said you came from a different world suggesting that mothers of babies don't work those late shifts. No where did I say you said those shifts didn't exists. But who do you think is doing those shifts? Sure, ideally if a person working such a shift is a parent, they would be a parent of an older child, but obviously it's not an ideal world so -- those janitors, maids, police officers, firemen, doctors, etc. are sometimes going to be the parents of infants.

Btw, breast pumps aren't 100% effective as there are a high percentage of women that can't produce breast milk.

By the way, if she wasn't producing any milk then it wouldn't necessarily have mattered if it had been her or the husband at home anyway, short of the fact that she had an immature, violent husband who clearly wasn't fit to be a parent.

It's human instinct to want children. It's how our species self-propagates. Those who do not want children are in the minority. Who are you to say that we should divide into classes, those who should be able to have children because they have the money, and those lower class ones who shouldn't have children because they weren't born in the correct circumstances.

I have nothing but sympathy for the woman who has to work night shifts 1 month after giving birth. I'm pretty positive this would not be by choice.

We had a colicky son. The best thing to do is lay the baby on his/her stomach - no pillow of course ! (suffocation is NOT a good remedy !) and watch them sleep peacefully - I know it works ! My husband couldn't believe his eyes (ears ?) and in fact, he wondered if baby was still alive ! He was, and still is...

Japan is full of wonderful, caring people but I think sometimes we forget that there are plenty of scumbags here too. I am also curious as to how much education about parenthood is taught to people here. Any idea?

A child that age doesn't really care what time it is when they're hungry because they're hungry every couple of hours and they sleep up to 16 hours a day. Besides that, if the mother isn't able to be with the child 24/7 she can use a breast pump to set aside milk.

If you come from a world where neither parent had to work shifts of those hours, consider yourself lucky. There are plenty of people who work late shifts; police, firemen, hotel workers, building janitors and cleaners, taxi drivers, factory workers, convenience store workers, health care workers, pasty chefs, computer operators, etc.

Here is what I did and it worked beautifully. Take your palm and put it over the baby's mouth, remove quickly, put over mouth again, remove quickly. Keep doing it. The baby will hear the funny sound it makes and start to laugh. It worked on both of my baby sons. Much better than killing the kid.

Judges, please, I beg you in the name of all that's Holy not to let this guy go. No suspended sentence for showing remorse, please no. Your responsibility is to the victim, don't feel sorry for this baby killer.

In the perfect world, everyone including homeless can have baby if they want to. The instinct of human nature for off spring have come with rights and responsibility. imagine someone is struggling with charity is having baby is selfishness.

As far as someone is mentally stable and tolerant with burden of babies have no problem for having off spring. Like that baby hitter who can not tolerate the responsibilities of babies is just giving death sentence for unborn babies.

Some parents abandoned the babies because of hardship. They still have some moral ground for not harming babies as that man. Reality is not having off spring is better than having brain damaged or abused by own parents. If the child grow up with half of. Rain function, it is crueler than not being born.

My wife and I work full-time and we still aint having a child until we have a motherload saved up. It is recommended the mother takes "2 YEARS" off to bond with the new born child.

Good for you but if every mother took 2 years off to bond with the new born child your eventual child would have very few friends to play with. As for 2 years being the recommended period of time, first, according to whom? Second, you're living in a fantasy world if you think that's the norm. Paid maternity leave in Japan is 14 weeks at 60% and one year of unpaid leave. It should not be only the rich who can have children.

I am not excusing this barbaric behavior, but you have to look at their circumstances. They are both shift workers, thus low income earners with little support. The baby is crying and the guy needs to work in the morning. Infants can be very frustrating to deal with and he was a new parent and didn't know what to do, so he snapped.

When I was 11 yrs old, I was a free baby sitters of every neighbours of my villiage. It was my civic duty and I enjoyed for helping working parents. Although I was not trained and qualified, no baby got injury or hunger on my watch.

He has not grown up as new parent. He is still immature like kindergarten kids. Even a little bit of shaking the babies can cause the brain damage. If that girl grown up with learning disability, it is the entire responsibilities of father. He has ruined the baby not only physically but also intellectually.
