Fatal traps in places one might have a legit or accidental reason to be is a no no though. And if innocent people are hurt by your booby traps, you should get full prosecution, key word being "innocent". It can be really tricky proving the innocence of the dead by the way, so again, fatal traps are a bad idea.

People are entitled to protecting their possessions. Booby trap them if a password isn't enough. Don't we still have barb wired fences, spiked walls, electric fences, etc. around our properties? A hidden blade behind a dashboard in our vehicles is not a lethal weapon. Just inform the technician when having the car serviced.

bbqtatsujin:" Also heard of prosecution of the folks that lay this trap. kinda like the dude that trip-wired a shotgun to his door, which killed the burglar and landed the dude in prison for murder."

How utterly ridiculous. Next we can expect a civil suit from a burglar who strained himself trying to pry open your door. He would not have strained himself had you not locked the darn thing!

disillusioned: razor blades taped behind the housing of a car stereo is a deterrent ive heard of. thief scrambles around under the dashboard to unplug wires and cuts his fingertips to ribbons before he relizes the trap. Get insurance. its easy. vigilantiasim is a no-win. besides, you might sell the car and forget its "upgrade" when listing its points. heh!

My daughter customised the screen on my navi with a sharp blade. I have no fear of having it stolen although, I would appreciate it so I can get a new one with insurance. Sadly, I don't live in Saitama.
