Ibaraki Prefectural Police have arrested a 24-year-old man from Osaka on suspicion of stealing about 300,000 yen in cash from a temple in Tsukuba City.

Police said Yuya Kawaguchi, a company employee, conspired with two other men, also in their 20s, to break into Shofuku-ji Temple at around 11:40 p.m. on May 19, Kyodo News reported. Kawaguchi and one other man broke into the temple’s office and threatened a 70-year-old male employee, who had been sleeping, with a crowbar. They managed to steal two safes containing cash and documents.

Police said they are questioning Kawaguchi, who was identified after an analysis of surveillance camera footage, about the identity and whereabouts of his two accomplices.

Some old dude was sleeping in the office with a crowbar in hand? There's obviously more to this story.
