More than 2,400 stalking cases were reported in Japan last year, the National Police Agency said Thursday. Though the number was less than in 2014, it still remains relatively high, NPA officials said.
According to the NPA, there were 2,415 reported stalking cases last year -- 58 fewer than in 2014, Sankei Shimbun reported. None of them ended up being murder cases, but 11 resulted in attempted murder charges being filed against the stalker.
The NPA data also showed that 1,143 cases of revenge porn were brought to the attention of the police. Of those, 63.4% involved former romantic partners, while 11.4% were cases in which people only interacted with each other online without actually meeting. Of the total, 90% were women, of whom 20% were minors (girls under the age of 20).

My fellow countrymen... Let's stop this pathetic behavior
GW
Afraid these numbers are likely insanely low!
Kobe White Bar Owner
2,415 stalking, 1,143 revenge porn cases reported across Japan in 2015
99% committed by repressed little boys (not age) with little emotional understanding and dont look at women for what between there ear but whats between there legs.
Nothing will change until the culture changes, which sadly wont or will take for ever to happen. imo.

Never let him film you ladies, no matter what he tries to tell you.
Andrew Crisp
Eleven plus percent of revenge porn cases were from sharing pics with strangers over the internet - obviously theres a percentage of Japanese girls that need to get their kicks elsewhere.
nath
There is a crazy amount of personal porn taken that never gets leaked anywhere.
Lots of girls enjoy having video and pictures taken of them naked and/or having sex. The huge majority of guys are trustworthy with it.
The advice to say 'never let them film you' is about as good advice as 'never have sex'. Sure it would work, but then it denies them the pleasures that they have the right to have.
The fault isn't with the ladies letting themselves have video taken, it's with those who would then abuse that video. They need to be shamed and dealt with appropriately (as is now happening with the new 'revenge porn' laws).

Could be that stalkers are getting better? Agree with m3m3 re homemade porn or naked pics, don't do it if you don't want to end up on the net. Things and people change, a bloke you trust can vecome a nutta who wants to destroy you. Don't give them easy ammo.

@Strangerland
I'm sure what you're saying is largey true, but most women just aren't as aware as men of the volume of personal videos that end up getting uploaded onto porn sites on the internet. If they were, they would at least be able to make a fully informed decision about whether the rewards outweigh the risks.

This is quite possibly the most naive, funniest liberal thing I have ever read! Of course they will show their friends! I seriously hope that sexual education teachers aren`t promoting this as OK standard, or something that unsuspecting little girls can believe that will turn out anything other than A BAD IDEA!
nath
Why do most Posters assume that majority of revenge-porn is done by guys. Or that women are more common victims.
Girls are just as likely to use it amd from the news of my country women are more likely to exploit/blackmail their ex's.
As was said don't take them or have them taken unless you are sure you can trust the other party.
clueless
Revenge porn doesn't end up on porn sites. Who would risk doing that and getting arrested with these new laws that have recently been passed?
Maybe did before but not now surely?

For those wanting a 'video' memento: Record it in your mind. You can always 'replay it during your quiet, alone time...
sado001
And this are the only reported cases.. How many are those who are afraid to report it out of shame?

according to these juicy news items, we have the following perfectly understandable and reasonable characterization of japan:
-population decline means nobody's having sex.
-all published polls say nobody's interested in sex, too much trouble.
-all japanese men, especially policemen, are sex maniacs specialized in molesting girls and super-specialized in upskirt photos
bjohnson23
127.13 million is the number of people in Japan;,2,415 stalking, 1,143 revenge porn cases by comparison to total population that number is fairly small and worthy of news, besides as on post mentioned a decline in population means no one is having sex to make babies, I would be more focused an helping women create babies.
nath
There is no 'of course' about it. Maybe you just don't realize how much video is taken by couples, and how little of it ends up anywhere. There is a lot. I personally have never shown anyone the videos I've taken.
JefferyDomer
Well, I suppose your right, but how in the world could YOU possibly know??????? Listen, whatever you do in your bedroom is up to you, but to allow someone film it is GENERALLY NOT A GOOD IDEA! This is something called COMMON SENSE! What do you suppose what one should do with their pics or film???? Save it for a rainy day????? Study it?????? Super naive to think it nothing less than bragging rights! Are you honestly telling me that you have never had a friend show you dirty pics of a girl he was with? If you say "no", I DONT BELIEVE YOU
nath
Because I know how people are. I know how the people around me are. I know how I am. I read a lot. Camera phones changed the world.
And this is where I disagree. If it's someone you can trust, it's not a problem at all.
No, common sense is deciding which people are ok to let film you. Again, a lot of girls enjoy being filmed, why should they deny their base pleasures if they are with a guy they can trust?
Watch it together! Watch it alone. Watch it when you are away from the person and can't be with them for a while.
Super naive to think it's only for bragging rights.
I had an old co-worker who showed me pictures un-asked - and I told him that wasn't cool. He was a sleazy guy though - it would be stupid to trust him. But that's him, not all guys.

What exactly is "revenge porn".

Here's a pretty useful rule about things like this:
if you want to make sure no one knows what you are up to, don't record it. Don't email it. Don't social media it. Don't take a photo. And for god sakes, don't video record it.
Maria
"But how about men..."? "But not all men..."? "But women too..."? in 3 - 2 - 1 -
Ah.
@It's Me:
Erm...
Of course this sentence isn't clear. Perhaps it means that this 90% majority were the culprits?
Vincehwr
Too many cases like this is saddening. What is more saddening is that this is the reason why the people are reluctant to get in the relationship not just the financial reasons and those old Japanese men in power don't seem to understand this. Japan can be depressingly bullheaded about certain issues.
Disillusioned
Sad.y, these are only the reported cases. I have no doubt there are many more unreported cases. This is another thing they need to fix to increase the birth rate. Nearly every woman I know has had at least one ex -boyfriend stalking or abusing her and, in a few cases, it involved violence. It's quite add that, the male politicians and academics are telling women to have more kids, but the reason they are not is because of the men. Most Japanese guys I know never grow up past 13 and they want to marry a proxy mother. I think the very first post got it right. Stop the pathetic behaviour! And, GROW UP!!!!
Fadamor
I THINK I know what they were trying to say, but as-written it seems that 90% of the people involved in these cases (both perps and victims) were women. I "THINK" they meant to say, "Of the total, 90% of the victims were women..."
Here's a typical example: Joe A. and Sarah B. are lovers and during an amorous evening Joe gets Sarah to agree to let him video their lovemaking. Fast-forward two months later when Joe and Sarah have a falling-out and break up. Joe is not happy about this and decides to get revenge on Sarah by uploading their intimate video to the internet - usually along with Sarah's personally identifiable information. Of course, any information about Joe will have been mosaic'd-out from the video or blanked-out from the audio prior to the upload.
roosterman77
@disillusioned. "Nearly every woman I know has had at least one ex -boyfriend stalking or abusing her and, in a few cases, it involved violence." Are you exaggerating? If not then it's worrying. I don't know of any cases amongst the women I know; not that there aren't any cases. I suppose women are more likely to only share such information with other women ... or the police.
JefferyDomer
Point Proven!
Clearly not the case!
If you aren`t married, it is basically open season to show others.
This statement is as comparable as using a condom with person you deem "trustworthy" instead of practicing CAUTION AT ALL TIMES....
Futaro Gamagori
assuming the video (or pictures) are 100% safe between you and your partner. there are still cases of the device being lost or sent for repair or hacked. like what most people say in this thread. nothing is safe. don't document anything you don't want other people to see.
shonanbb
If I could be watched and make as much money as the Kardashian's have by doing so, I will start to bug my partner to upload everything we got.
nath
Not really, I never claimed that some people won't do this. The point is using discretion in deciding who is trustworthy and who isn't. As I said in my post:
It's like choosing which guys to sleep with in the first place - a woman could choose to not sleep with any guy ever, because some of them are bad guys, denying herself a pleasureful sex life. Or she can use discretion and have a healthy fun sex life with guys she trusts. Same as with videos - a girl can choose to never let any videos or pictures to be taken of her, or she can use discretion in deciding who to let do so (if that is something that turns her on).
nath
Wrong - the huge majority of guys are trustworthy. A few bad apples spoil the bunch.
Wolfpack
So you are actually saying that it's okay for young girls to trust young guys to make nude or even pornographic movies of them? A "youthful mistake" could end up ruining a young girl or woman's life. It is impossible to know what anyone's future could be - why ruin it by doing something so stupid?
nath
I once got accused of stalking after giving a Japanese girl a Saki set for her birthday. I told her that I thought it was a "tea set" and didn't know it was used for alcohol. She replied that a "tea set" on a girl's "birthday" could be considered a "marriage proposal". I immediately backed down and accepted her stalking claim!
shonanbb
I agree with stranger
nath
If it's something she enjoys, yes.
So could sleeping with the guy in the first place. Are you preaching abstinence?
w0tme
If girls are dumb enough to video themselves with cell phones, sure go ahead. Freedom of expression or whatever. But remember, nothing in the digital world is ever secure. Nothing. Take the Hollywood nude celebrity hack of Apple iphones. I'm pretty sure they thought it was safe to keep as a momento...but...
JefferyDomer
Nice try on twisting words, but you are encouraging naive women to make a potentially really stupid mistake during the heat of the moment which could have extremely long-term real world consequences! This is nearly as dangerous as someone promoting that using a condom isn't needed as long as their partner is "trustworthy"! Your claim that most guys are trustworthy is laughable, I, as well as tons of people have seen tons of pics for years from lots of different people, just like your friend you previously mentioned. I hope people with daughters don't preach your philosophy for their kids own good!
Wolfpack
I agree, a young woman (or man) can, and often do, make life changing mistakes in who they choose to sleep with. There are situations where the repercussions can be quite serious. But filming a possible mistake with the chance that it could be made public through either malice or negligence only compounds the mistake. Of course I am not preaching abstinence. Just common sense. Film yourself doing the nasty all you like. But when it gets posted on the Internet I hope you don't mind your mother, sister, co-workers, and friends checking it out.
