26-year-old man arrested for assaulting 8-year-old girl

Police in Higashikurume, Tokyo, said Saturday they have arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting an 8-year-old girl as she walked home on Aug 24.

According to police, the suspect, Muneyuki Sato, approached the girl as she was walking home from school, grabbed both her arms and tried to drag her into some nearby bushes, Fuji TV reported. However, the girl broke free and escaped with no injuries.

Sato, who is a part-time worker, was quoted by police as saying that on many occasions he had committed similar acts because he liked exposing the lower part of his body to young girls.

Dang! A city I know very well!!

So glad that she broke free and got away. Otherwise, who knows how this could have ended! And glad that they have arrested the man.

This guy clearly is a menace. Hopefully they can put some other old cases to bed by arresting him.

I would have chosen better wording, but share the sentiments.

@zones2surf There is of course no telling, but odds are it would have ended just as he said; he exposes himself and that's it. Whatever her reaction, she goes home. Letting our imaginations and fear get the better of us is not going to help anyone.

That said, he should be locked up in a mental facility for life. I might be willing to try rehab if it was just exposing himself, but grabbing children and dragging them into the bushes is too much. He is not worth the risk.

Remove the lower body parts....

7 ( +12 / -5 )

mazzda - agreed, so he has nothing to show anymore.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I'm with you on this one. I say remove his lower parts, slowly, using a "come along".

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Time to expose this sick pervert to the prison system.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

How many other girls were exposed to this pervert and did any of them tell their parents or police or was it all hush hush private family knowledge. A very sick man. Just 26?

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Please put this away away for a long....this is only going to escalate into something worse is he let off.

@mazzda

Remove the lower body parts....

I've read that most treatments, even chemical or physical castration, don't stop the perversions of some paedophiles.

@ Peace Out - And I suppose if it was your little girl he did this to, you'd have sympathy and tolerance for him because he's sick and can't help himself.

"assaulting an 8-year-old girl as she walked home...on MANY occasions he had committed similar acts"

@kazetsukai is absolutely correct...and as for the rest of you, what part of INSTITUTIONALIZED CHILD ABUSE don't you understand? :-(

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

It's ridiculous to say child abuse is institutionalized in Japan.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

@Strangerland - "It's ridiculous to say child abuse is institutionalized in Japan."

Yes, it's ridiculous, but it also happens to be true. There are not many countries that encourage such young children to make their own way to and from school. The girl was EIGHT YEARS OLD "walking home from school" and I am assuming that she was wearing her school uniform at the time...

What part of INSTITUTIONALIZED CHILD ABUSE don't you understand?

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Readers, this story is not about institutionalized child abuse. Please stay on topic.

No mention of his nationality or ethnicity this time?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Not old news. this stuff happens daily in japan and has been an issue for countless years as pedophilia is becoming the norm and guess what...The usa and the Pope are advocating gay rights and pedophilia rights. Do the research guys :)

@sensei258 Okay, so when you don't suggest torture and mutilations, that is you, being all sympathetic and tolerant?

You: "Hey, I only broke your nose, and some ribs and damaged internal organs to the point you need a dialysis machine for the rest of your life. See how tolerant I am? I didn't mutilate you!"

What part of life in a mental ward did you confuse for tolerance anyway? Sympathy though? Why not? My bet is that he IS mental and did not ask to be born that way. If he isn't though, yeah, my sympathy will be removed and I will instead suggest some years in prison. But NOT mutilations and torture. Sorry, I am above that. You may defend you barbaric stance to the hilt if you wish however.

Peace Out: "Letting our imaginations and fear get the better of us is not going to help anyone."

Okay, hang on a second. On the thread about CSI ending you say "good riddance" and talk about how the show was a danger to societies around the world because of lies and spreading US gun culture, but about this man who was dragging a little girl into the bushes to sexually and physically assault her you play it down and ask everyone to avoid using their imaginations (despite him saying exactly what he has done and people being justifiably angry about it) and 'fear' get the better of us? and people calling you on playing it down are all extremists who want mutilations and torture?

"on many occasions he had committed similar acts..."

I am translating the Japanese 数十回 as "several ten times" and if we take "several" to be not one, not two, but at least three, then by my maths (excuse the pun) we are looking at AT LEAST THIRTY TIMES that he has done this.

And assuming that it is a different girl each time, that gives us AT LEAST THIRTY TIMES VICTIMS... and probably many more!! :-(

That's really not what that means. It simply means he has done multiple/many times. Nothing to do with 30etc.

Why would you assume 'several' has the same nuance in Japanese as in English? The two languages are entirely unrelated.

I'd translate数十回 as 'tens of times'. Could be 10, could be more. That said, I'm not entirely sure of the nuances of the term, so maybe someone a little more knowledgeable could enlighten us.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I'd translate数十回 as "Too d@ng many times"

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The thing is he was a serial exposer of his thing. More than five times.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@cardsfan5 / @Strangerland / @sensei258 - Even bing.com translates 数十回 as "dozens of times" and we all know how accurate machine translations are!! ;-)

PS - Dozens would imply AT LEAST TWENTY FOUR!! :-(

Not very accurate. There is nothing in that kanji that refers to 12 (a dozen).

PS - Dozens would imply AT LEAST TWENTY FOUR!! :-(

In English it would. Again, you are making the assumption that the nuances in Japanese would be the same as in English, but the languages are entirely unrelated. On top of that, you are reading into the nuances of a bad translation.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

@Strangerland - "you are making the assumption that the nuances in Japanese would be the same as in English"

The translation of 数十回 as "suu jikkai" is entirely my own. Several ten times... At least THIRTY... I am not translating it into to English... I am reading the Japanese Kanji as an serious student of the language would.

The article (in English) said "many occasions" but the Japanese language article used 数十回. They obviously don't want to scare you... ;-)

Even bing.com translates 数十回 as "dozens of times"

The translation of 数十回 as "suu jikkai" is entirely my own. Several ten times... At least THIRTY...

And once again, the nuances of 'several' as being more than two are nuances for the English word 'several'. Japanese is not English, and those nuances do not exist in Japanese. Therefore your inference that it is at least thirty is incorrect, or at least whether or not it is more than thirty cannot be inferred from the phrase 数十回. It may in fact be that there are more than 30 incidents, but that would be coincidental, as 数十回 does not have the inference of at least 30 times.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

High five to the girl that she escaped. And now let this freak "expose" his body parts to the prison guards.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

@Strangerland - My translation has obviously got you scared. So now you know why they watered down the English translation to "many occasions" for people like you...

Because YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH... ;-)

That ends discussion on this point.

You're right about things getting watered down in the press here. Like the "idol" singer who went to a hotel with TWO male fans, not one as was reported. Wouldn't want her to look too much like a sl@t at 15 now would we.

Solve the problem by removing the problem. Snip snip ;)

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Agree, snip snip!

Stick him in an area of prison where other bigger and better endowed men can expose themselves to and inside him.

You realize this is a Japan story, and not an America story, right?

One word: castration...

I don't care about his "individual rights"...
