29-year-old man arrested for abusing one-month-old son

Police in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he hit his one-month-old son repeatedly with his fist.

According to police, Masahi Maeda, a truck driver, has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying he hit his child because he wouldn’t stop crying. He also denied any intent to kill.

Police said Maeda lives with his wife, 27, one-year-old daughter and infant son. On the night of Sept 19, at around 9:10 p.m., Maeda was alone with the children, while his wife was out shopping. The girl was asleep. Maeda told police that he had put his son to bed but when the baby wouldn’t stop crying, he lost his temper and beat him about the head 7-8 times with his fist.

When his wife returned home, he told her that he had been holding the baby and that he had fallen out of his hands and hit his head on the floor.

The baby was taken to hospital where doctors diagnosed him with an acute subdural hematoma and fractured skull. On Sept 21, the hospital notified a child welfare consultation center that the child may have suffered abuse. The center then contacted police.

Put this with the other article about older first time fathers increasing. These young guys are just over-emotional children who cannot control themselves. Men in their 40's and 50' are emotionally mature and can deal with the stress of child rearing (most of them anyway).

There is a huge difference between a one time lost of temper and a baby abuser. The latter case is criminal of course.

On the other side, it would seem cruel to make the parents lose the baby and the baby to lose his parents (that is what would happen if need to split).

He needs psychological support.

I speak as a parent who went through difficulties in dealing with a crying baby.

A baby that cries constantly can wind you up, if this is the case you have to walk away, and come back a short time latter, or you should ask for assistance, i.e. wife to take over or something, but thumping a baby, that is out of order full stop! I just hope the baby makes a full recovery and is not scared for life by his actions.

He will get a suspended sentence because he's the family breadwinner.

My son use to scream the house down, and I never beat him, some night we never got any sleep, he did not want milk, had clean nappy but still cried all night long, and still he never got hit, just got cuddles. ... I do not understand these so called parents that abuse their children.

You son was probably colicky, which made him cry a lot. My mother and grandmother always used half a teaspoon of olive oil with a dash of honey for colicky babies and it works every time. Sometimes the older remedies are better than new medicines. It's much better than beating a bay to make it shut up. How stupid is that? Your baby is crying so you hit it to make it shut up. Some people just don't deserve to have kids. You think of all the people around the world who are desperate to have kids but can't and then you have twats like this abusing them.

the guy sounds like a winner

While I hate to stereotype, many a Japanese male (and female for that matter) here seem like over-emotional children.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling you are right on this...

in the UK some of the schools have a life like real baby, it cries, it wets its nappy, etc, its linked to a computer so it can be programmed to do x y or z, it is designed for school girls and boy to get use to what it is like to have a young baby, is this something that is used in Japan? if it was introduced it could show children what responsibility and care a baby needs, also one of the settings is crying,

Call me old fashioned but I think this low IQ loser should be stripped naked, hands bound behind his back and forced to walk through the town with a sign on his neck displaying his crime! Before he goes to jail for a spell.

I think the kids and wife are better off without the "breadwinner".....

Yes. I personally believe that a person who is impatient, easily stressed or has a short fuse is definitely not an ideal candidate to be a parent. Yeah, many people are taught a few times by their local health center how to nurture a baby. However that is only a small fraction of reality.

Funny though but some of the comments I read just shows some cannot be a father hehehe..

Baby crying is natural. They are babies and asking for attentions. DUH !!. Find out what is the baby's problem wanna be fathers. Pampers soaked? Hungry? Commons sense wanna be fathers. You made that baby so attend to your baby's problem. IMHO

A baby's job is to eat, wee, burp, poo, sleep and cry.......not in any particular order either! If parents can remember this, it makes it a little easier. This guy's crime is unforgivable and he needs to spend a long time away from his family to think about how he could ever imagine violence against his 1-month-old baby son would somehow be the answer.
