29-year-old man arrested over murder of 17-year-old girl

Police in Tokyo's Edogawa ward said Sunday they have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of killing a 17-year-old girl.

According to police, the suspect, Masahiro Aoki, and the victim, Kana Iwase, used to work part-time at the same convenience store until last month, Fuji TV reported.

Police said that Iwase's mother reported her missing when she did not return home from school on Nov 12.

Chiba police received a call from Aoki on Saturday in which he said he had killed a girl. They contacted Tokyo police who went to Aoki's apartment in Edogawa Ward where they found Iwase's naked body in the bathtub at around 8 p.m. Police said she had been strangled to death.

Aoki, who was in the apartment, was arrested and charged with murder. He had also taken 7,000 yen from Iwase's bag.

Aoki was quoted by police as saying that he had "accidentally on purpose" bumped into Iwase after she left work on Nov 11 because he knew her schedule. He told police he offered to give her some anime goods as a present and made an appointment to meet her at JR Koiwa Station after she finished school on Nov 12 and invited her back to his apartment. As soon as Iwase entered his apartment, Aoki told police he immediately attacked her from behind and strangled her with his hands and part of her school uniform.

Aoki was quoted as saying life had become tough for him and he had given up all hope and that he wanted to end it all. He also told police he had wanted to kill someone for a long time.

The exclamation marks aren't necessary.

RIP

Insane on the loose

Horrible person. Premeditated murder of a child for no reason. He deserves the harshest penalty they can throw at him.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

life had become tough for him and he had given up all hope and that he wanted to end it all. He also told police he had wanted to kill someone for a long time.

How many times have we heard the same thing? He's just another pathetic and cowardly loser taking out his frustrations on someone who couldn't fight back! This kind of incident seems to happen with alarming regularity in Japan. How many more of these psychos are out there? RIP little lady. You didn't deserve to die. It's no wonder so many women stay single in Japan. These possessive and dominating losers are everywhere!

I wonder what percentage of Japanese people have "wanted to kill someone for a long time". Over 20% ?

3 ( +7 / -4 )

That poor girl, may she rest in peace. Yet another nutcase who wanted to see what it was like to kill someone.

POS.

Aoki was quoted as saying life had become tough for him and he had given up all hope and that he wanted to end it all. He also told police he had wanted to kill someone for a long time.

This sickens and infuriates me for many reasons. One, I'm angry at this excuse for reasoning. Two, I am heart sick this poor young woman fell into his clutches. Three, I am disgusted and angered there are these guys falling through the cracks from an early age with no guidance other than "Ganbatte! Study and pass your test!" until we get these nihilistic results. The status quo failed this young woman majorly.

He also told police he had wanted to kill someone for a long time.

Don't you think he may be the reincarnation of some WWII soldier or another mass murderer? What other logical explanation is there for such insane excuse?!

"Aoki was quoted as saying life had become tough for him and he had given up all hope and that he wanted to end it all. He also told police he had wanted to kill someone for a long time."

He's a classic waste of human space.

"Aoki... offered to give her... a present... made an appointment to meet... after... school...invited her back to his apartment... strangled her with... her school uniform"

Now where are all those "enjyo kousai" apologists?? ;-)

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Should have just jumped at Koiwa tracks like the others do.. but instead he insisted to become even a lower scumbag. Wish harsher penalties for these crimes would be enforced.

This kind of incident seems to happen with alarming regularity in Japan.

your only source of news must be japantoday then. and by regularity do you mean once every month or two months? hardly seems "regular" to me.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Well once every two months "does" seem regular to me and probably others on here too.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Some people just need to get out of that huge city. Too bad no one told him to give it a try. He might have stopped or never started loathing himself and/or others, and Kana would still be alive. There should actually be some sort of education/counseling/presentation for young people to ask themselves which would they prefer. The countryside could certainly use it.

Perhaps they need to make an group or club for these people who feel like they want to kill someone. And then just put them in a big room and let them go at each other.

Or just get them therapy, but then again since therapy is such a taboo thing here, i guess most people would prefer to be put into a killers club where they may or may not survive.

Anime goods? What a line (only in japan.)

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

i dont get it, if he wanted to end it all... why not just jump of a cliff?

Nakanoguy01 - your only source of news must be japantoday then. and by regularity do you mean once every month or two months? hardly seems "regular" to me.

Let me inform you that, having some nutter kill an innocent victim and complaining they wanted to kill someone happening every month or every second 'is' alarmingly regular!

RIP!

For those who wish to kill someone, please kill yourself first!

This guy called Masahiro not only a psycho but can join bokoharam terrorist group

May your soul rest in peace, Iwase.

he had given up all hope and that he wanted to end it all

Yet he is still breathing and wasting our oxygen.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

What a lunatic! What has his hopelessness and desperation got to do with the girl? He deserves psychatric review first and subsequent life jail term. May the girl rest in peace.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

He first requires psychatric review.

"Aoki told police he immediately attacked her from behind and strangled her with his hands and part of her school uniform."

"Tokyo’s Edogawa ward": used to live in that area, full of nutcracks, there was one from a near train station ramen shop weird as hell who used to watch me with an evil eye for no reason

I would also see this nutcrack at intersections peering at me with an evil eye. I told the cyclops about this nutcrack, and they just smiled and said "take care" I would have loved to give him a free ticket to LA where he could have tried his styles there, and see what happens.

Again crazy man saying ...(( he had wanted to kill someone for a long time. ))

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I hate to say it, but this is such a classic case in Japan. Randomly killing someone who you don't really have any previous grudge against when "life becomes tough" because you "wanted to kill someone"....I've honestly read various configurations of this exact article about a 20 or 30 times in the past few years.

And again, the general public will just say "shou ga nai" and carry on with their business.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Take him to a place of execution, tie him to a post and shoot him. poor girl, what a horrid way to go.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Let me inform you that, having some nutter kill an innocent victim and complaining they wanted to kill someone happening every month or every second 'is' alarmingly regular!

give me some evidence that this is happening on a "regular basis"?

@nakanoguy01 - "give me some evidence that this is happening on a 'regular basis'"

This one was only SIX WEEKS AGO and some people don't forget that easily... :-(

Japan has one of the lowest homicide rates of any country in the world, try writing up the life story of all the 10,000+ people murdered in the USA each year.

JT would have to write 30 of these articles a day!

It's sad to note that people out here are trying to turn a blind eye to the serious problem in Japan! Yes crimes like this happen in the US and other countries but stop defending Japan by ignoring these crime! ( @nanayori / nakanoguy and others ) ... Japan was a safe country a few years back but there are a lot of lunatics around these days so open up your eyes! This article is about Japan so don't jump the gun and start about other countries... It's sad when people like you don't sympathize with the victim and start talking about the rate of crime being low in Japan!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Japan was a safe country a few years back

Japan is a safe country now.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

@naniyori - "Japan has one of the lowest homicide rates... try writing up the life story of all the... people murdered"

It is precisely BECAUSE the murder rate is so relatively low, about one each day in a population of 120 million, that people who care about Japan are "writing up the life story of all the people murdered" and coming to same alarming conclusion...

And guess what that conclusion is??? ;-)

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@strangerland ... Your statement that Japan is a safe country sounds so ironic since this artical reveals crazy crimes are also commited in Japan! Having said so, it's really crazy that people are still talking about Japan being a safe country when this artical is about a poor defenseless girl losing her life! Have some compassion please! Stop all the nonsense about Japan being safe and focus more on the topic here!!!

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Your statement that Japan is a safe country sounds so ironic since this artical reveals crazy crimes are also commited in Japan!

And? I hope you aren't so illogical to think that reading an article is an accurate way to determine the safety or lack thereof of a country.

it's really crazy that people are still talking about Japan being a safe country when this artical is about a poor defenseless girl losing her life!

There are 130 million (or so) people in Japan. Your comment seems to be implying that having a murder in a country of 130 million people is enough to declare the country unsafe. If that is the case, there is not a safe country on the planet, so all we can do is talk about relative safety. If that makes you feel better, then I can revise my comment to "Japan is safer than almost every other country on this planet, but as it isn't 100% free of incidents whatsoever, just like every other country on the planet, it cannot be considered safe".

Or, I can just stick with my original comment: "Japan is safe now".

0 ( +2 / -2 )

@naniyori - "Japan has one of the lowest homicide rates..."

If you care to read your own link you will find everyone's conclusion right there:

"reliability of... murder rate... may vary... may not include infanticide, assisted suicide or euthanasia... may also be under-reported for political reasons"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

All readers back on topic please.

I wonder what percentage of Japanese people have "wanted to kill someone for a long time". Over 20% ?

If I go by how the average person behaves on the trains here, I would say its over 50%. There really seems to be a lot of negative energy in the greater Tokyo area
