2channel post removal requests decrease in 2012, police say

The National Police Agency has announced a decrease in the number of requests it made in 2012 to popular Internet forum site 2channel for the removal of illegal information from its public pages.

According to police, the number of removal requests made in the first half of 2012 was just 311, compared to 2,800 in the corresponding period in 2011, NTV reported. Police also say that the ratio of posts that were deleted in response to removal requests was up to 44.4% in the first half of 2012, compared to just 3% throughout 2011.

The agency says it believes the reasons for the decrease include the introduction of premises searches conducted in response to posts offering to sell illegal drugs, as well as a more proactive approach to inappropriate post deletion by 2channel administrators.

Also I think it's because more people are spending more time on social networking sites rather than on bulletin boards than in the past.
