Police in Osaka have arrested two men and a woman on suspicion of killing and robbing an 82-year-old man at his home in Ikuno Ward in December.

According to police, the three suspects — Masakazu Ukegawa, 44, a company employee, his unemployed wife Saki, 23, who both live in Yao, and Toshio Nogi, 58, a construction worker from Osaka — got into the house of Katsuya Kawasaki through a second-floor balcony at around 12:30 a.m. on Dec 1 with the aim of robbing him, Fuji TV reported. They beat him about the head with a hammer, police said.

Police said Ukegawa has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying they had heard that Kawasaki kept a lot of money and valuables in the house. Kawasaki worked as a money lender before he retired. Police said the suspects stole a large amount of cash after killing Kawasaki.

A friend who came to visit Kawasaki at around 7 a.m. discovered his body.

Police said the three suspects were identified after an analysis of street surveillance camera footage outside Kawasaki’s house.

Didn't have to kill the guy and to beat him about the head with a hammer, So sad. So NOW it's time to face the music and go to Prison jail for a Long Long Time ....

It seems they planned everything, but brainless for not checking the security camera.

For some reason, perps here seem to forget this very important detail and go about committing crimes in plain sight of security cameras like they don't exist. 'Tis a bit peculiar.

A second question: Not ‘to speak ill of the dead’ but curious as to the former occupation of the deceased:

-“worked as a money lender before he retired” -

A ‘retired’ banker; a ‘Sarakin’; or worse, ‘Yamikin?

Seems the intent was to beat the location of the money (and/or combination to a safe) out of him but he died from the assaults. In the states, “felony murder” and all participants to the conspiracy to rob are guilty as well.

What is wrong with Japanese society lately?

It’s written explicitly in the text. Younger and working ones have nothing and get more angry and violent, old seniors who had better chances through their former life swim in money and become subject or victim of the many angry ones. Or call it a distribution problem, wrong Pareto graph with extreme Gini coefficient, unsuccessful three-arrows-politics, if you like it more scientific or abstract.

maybe guy talked too much to some mamasan in some local snack.

guys heard that talk and so it happened?

even if he did, that's no excuse for murdering someone. And he was 82 years old.

I may not be particularly experienced with home invasions myself, but I can't imagine one needs a freakin' hammer to subdue a little old man...

Hoping that execution awaits all three of these trash.

RIP to the poor elderly man.

Surely they could've robbed him without killing him!? Hopefully they all get very long sentences!
