The Philippine is a dangerous place to be.. 32 years ago I was robbed at an ice cream shop at central Manila

Odd....they weren't haunted by conscience when committing the crime.....

Hope the Philippine police can bring the leader to justice soon.

Crime is a problem in many countries.

It is like any other country, proceed with caution especially in Manila. Manila is one place to just stay in the hotel when the sun sets.

Masashi Matsuura was murdered back in Manila 2004 for his insurance policy. The wife already recieved the insurance and already on her 8th marriage/victim. the wife is also involved in credit card fraud, marriage fraud and prostitution, even selling her own eldest daughter who at the time was still a minor. The wife is still at large.

I have to agree...

Easy with the finger pointing. Plenty of Japanese men take advantage of Philippine women, both in the PI and here in Japan.

Well said sensei258, take note there have been many more cases of filipinas being murdered in Japan than japanese murdered in the phils.

Cont. sold the husband's business and properties, raided all bank accounts, laundered all the money into the Philippines then bought a very big empty house in their province, it so big you wouldn't miss it. Fact.

Is that fact or an opinion? If it's fact, let's see some numbers.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

I'm getting confused.

Ooakoto Ootamaka, what does the Masashi Matsuura case have to do with the current one? Who is Cont. And what do/does they/he/she have to do with the current case?

Americanhonor, I'm sure there have been a number of Philippine nationals and Japanese nationals murdering each other and not always in the home country if the murderer. Do you have some actual statistics?

Did the dead Filipino woman have a name? Or did her mother name her Yuji's girlfriend?

It happened at mid day close to my 5 stars hotel ...

Sorry for my typo: "the home country if the murderer" should have been "the home country of the murderer".

Zenpun " I have never heard that Japanese murdered Fillipino men in Japan or other part of the world."

I doubt that there have been no such cases but I'm not going to go on a search for them. I remember some cases where women from the Philippines have been murdered by Japanese men in Japan.

You wrote a lot of about some things that can happen that is pretty much common knowledge in a very racist and exaggerated fashion. None of it answered my question to Americanhonor.

The Walrus "Did the dead Filipino woman have a name? Or did her mother name her Yuji's girlfriend?"

Good point!

The Philippines murder rate is EXTREMELY high by East Asian standards, about 25 (yes, twenty-five) times higher than Japan's murder rate. Law enforcement and investigational standards tend to be extremely low, as can be seen in everything from the country's constant jail escapes to incidents like the Hong Kong bus massacre.

It is best to avoid that place entirely until the Philippine people choose to get their act together.

Japan has been highest contributor of Philippines foreign aids. Not only as state to state contribution. Japanese residents and tourists have invested there and pumped Pinoy economy with their life time savings. The sad truth is many ungrateful expats and local people do not appreciate Japanese people good will and sincerity. In my opinion, Japan should look after her own before helping ungrateful neighbor. Giving navy ships as free was the greatest mistake of J government.

Domestic violence and framed intended murder cases are entirely different. Japanese law do not pamper the criminals who can manipulate authority as Philippines. Murderers of Pinoy ladies have been punished without mercy. If you compare Philippines with neighboring nations, it is still in the Wild West era and black mailing, kidnapping, robbery and murder rates are incredibly high. Myanmar and Cambodia residents may be poor however those people are civilized, honest and abide the law and order.

I strongly recommend that businessmen for not doing business in the lawless and untrustworthy destination. It is the nation of highest crime rate, fraudulent and corrupted nation of South East Asia.

Zenpun & Athletes seem to be under the impression that I am ignorant of the historical and current situations in the Philippines and need to be lectured. Sorry, but they are both mistaken.

It's quite simple, Americanhonor made a claim, and Strangerland and I wondered if he/she had some statistics to back it up.

Ooakoto Ootamaka seems to have an axe to grind and wrote about seemingly random cases. I would like to know what the connection, if any, they have to the case in the article.

It's really disgusting how some readers here (no prize for guessing the nationality) could even attempt to defend this sort of crime. They have no morals, and will KILL if need to. This is one city in South East Asia that is perhaps most lawless and scary to even set foot on your own if you're not well acquainted. Don't even get me started on the number of kidnappings going on daily with unsuspecting tourists.

And seriously, a thumb down negative votes in trying to cover the truth of voice by many others? Why are we even talking about Japanese men taking advantage of Filipino ladies? Shall we also start the topic how it is that so many Filipino women are lining up to catch a ride to come to Japan in leaving the terrible crime infested city and enjoy the peaceful and welfare system here in Japan?

What a horrible and ruthless crime, no remorse nor repent.

They had remorse. That's Why they confessed.

In my view, no one is lecturing about you about current and historical situation of crime and fraud ridden nation you are fiercely defending for. Business people are not academic as educator who want to dominate others. They do not treat other with superior mentality too. I strongly agree that Zenpun and Athletes have some reservation about the reputation of Philippines lawless nature and Justice system.

It is also true for Japanese expats residing there who were murdered by Pinoy criminals are getting momentum. On the contrast, Pinoy expats and tourists murdered by Japanese are rare as diamonds. It may be the indisputable reason for Philippines is deterring the foreign business investment. If you are Pinoy working and living in Japan, you have already realized that it is the law abiding nation with orderly manner although it is imperfect.

It is up to Pinoy authority and people to clean up their bad image for future success and prosperity. There is an option for stand still and left behind or reform and catch up with civilized, developed and friendly neighbors.

Nathow et al,

"crime and fraud ridden nation you are fiercely defending for"

Having not fiercely defended anything whatsoever, I do sincerely suggest you work on your reading comprehension skills. This is not being superior, it is being honest. You have seriously misunderstood something.

"If you are Pinoy "

I am not.

In my humble opinion, Japan is safer and welcoming for Expats and Tourists. It is not the other way around. Countless Pinoy ladies still want to move to Japan because it is not like their homeland. They have no negative feeling like some posters. Period!

Not only in Japan, but also in HK, Singapore and Middle East, some Pinoy ladies have been murdered. Most cases were committed by their abusive employers. Some cases were committed by victims spouses as domestic violence. There are also Japanese or foreign business men have been murdered in Philippines regularly. Murder cases in Philippines have back up from law enforcement officials or judges unlike others. It can be called as state sponsored crimes.

J authority have taken the necessary actions for victims. Philippines has injustice for victims for ignoring and letting criminals get away. It is also true for HK., Singapore and Middle East. Murder cases can be minimized although it is impossible for wiping out as zero.

If you are Japan resident, you can go and visit that nation and compare the law abiding society and Wild West cold blooded killing field. Law can be twisted there. Pls feel the difference!

About 10 years ago I stayed in Manila for 3 months with my Japanese husband. We weren't staying in a fancy area either. My husband used to go to work and I would stay inside our guesthouse room until he returned home. My husband was surprised that I wouldn't go out by myself but I have to admit I didn't feel safe (even though I am originally from a crime ridden African country!!!). My husband, an experienced traveler, went prepared with a couple of cartons of Malboros to smooth things over in a pinch. Those cartons didn't even make it out of the airport in one piece. A customs official grabbed 4 packs and told us that if we didn't have his stamp we wouldn't be able to leave the airport. My husband grabbed 2 packs back and said he could keep only two! He laughed and gave us the stamp. Then one evening we were returning home from a restaurant and all the electricity went out. We were standing at a traffic light and these 2 guys starting behaving in a menacing way towards us. My husband is quite a tough guy so he showed some aggression and luckily they backed off. On another occasion a random lady tried to persuade us to come to her house for dinner. She was very persistent but we weren't having any of it. This is an old trick in the Philippines, where they befriend you, ask you to dinner, drug you, steal your cards etc. and then dump you somewhere. In Manila I saw homeless people come into fast food restaurants like KFC and eat the left overs, which were sometimes just bones, off people's plates. I have never seen this anywhere else and I was amazed that the restaurant staff didn't chase them away. But after all the jeepney rides and using public transport only to get around, I am happy to say we never actually had any serious problems. On a final note I have to say that most of the Japanese we saw there were pretty unsavory types, if you know what I mean. They weren't 'normal' businessman!

Yes, I agree.

"If you are Japan resident, you can go and visit that nation .......Pls feel the difference!"

No thank you. I am adequately aware of the differences and that is one reason I have no desire to visit the Philippines.

what is cheap in the end becomes expensive. Too bad they did not live to learn a lesson. Better to be safe in expensive Japan, than dead in cheap islands.

All you people that live on Numbers and statistics need to get a life! Filipinos are Family oriented, unlike the Japanese who want you to believe they are family oriented, but are not! Filipinos are warm hearted, Japanese are compartmentalized, emotionally incapable of real love unless its a coach or Louis Vuitton, unable to even keep up with one child. Yes there is crime everywhere, how much occurs in Japan that no one hears about, because the police want to save face and not be involved, probably quite a bit! However the Philippine's like any other third world country is poor and has its problems, but its also one of the most beautiful places in the world! Filipinas are lining up to come to Japan to make money to bring back to the their Families, come on now, How dumb do you have to be to go to drinky bars and spend your salary there, when you have a wife and kid at home, that's why Filipinas come to Japan, to get the stupid Japanese salary mans money!
