3 Keio University students arrested for sexual assaulting, robbing unconscious woman

Three male Keio University students, one of whom was a participant in the college’s “Mr Keio Contest,” have been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman and stealing her wallet after encouraging her to drink alcohol.

According to police, in May 2018, Yota Watanabe, 22, and Kazuki Koyama, 22, — both second-year students — along with another unnamed suspect, who was 19 at the time, are accused of getting a woman drunk to the point of unconsciousness at a karaoke booth in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward, Fuji TV reported. The suspects then allegedly sexually assaulted her while she was passed out and stole her wallet containing 8,000 yen in cash.

During a police investigation, Watanabe was quoted by police as saying, “I don’t recall anything.” Koyama and the other suspect have partially denied the allegations against them.

Watanabe is already under arrest for allegedly sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman on the stairwell of a multi-tenant building in Yokohama’s Nishi Ward on Sept 29. He has denied that charge, saying he was drunk at the time.

Watanabe was an entrant in the 2016 Mr Keio Contest, an event whose winners are determined via online voting.

Here we go again! More college boys who thinks they are privileged to the point where they think they can do whatever they want when they want and probably thought they were god's gift to women!

depending on what they actually did to her while she was unconscious, it could even be rape

We have a little sociopath in the making. He's 22. Jail him until his testosterone is low enough to not fuel anymore of that beastly behavior. Better yet, just castrate him.

Is this a university for rich kids ?

Seems like an "I can do whatever I want" kind of mentality.

I hope they all get locked up.

Another pathetic ‘I was drunk & cant remember‘ excuse - twice !!

If that were my daughter I know what I’d be doing.

'. Better yet, just castrate him.'

If he is proven guilty of sexual assault I absolutely agree.

I’m not sure if unconscious is the correct word to use for somebody that drunk so much they passed out.

Of course, these are little punks that need a good flogging. However, was she at a karaoke venue alone with three boys? And, why did she drink so much she passed out? Perhaps she has just learned one of life’s lessons the hard way. “Don’t put yourself in the position where you can become a victim.”

Idiots and their dumb excuse. Castration would solve this. Let see them get drunk next time and still be able to perform.

Sounds like a real piece of work doing this stuff regularly. Good thing he's caught.

Keio is one of the "top" 6 universities, public and private in Japan.

早稲田大学 Waseda University

法政大学 Hosei University

明治大学 Meiji University

慶應義塾大学 Keio University

立教大学 Ritsumeikan University

東京大学 Tokyo University

There was a time, and even to a certain extent to this day, that a student who got into any of these 6 universities was considered to be set for life (if they graduate) and the "elite" of Japan.

Times have changed, but these schools are STILL extremely difficult to get into for an "average" student.

22 years of age and they are only in their second year? I think they are at KEIO only to fool around and hopefully after 6-7 years graduate and then Mommy and Daddy will take care of them!

Privilege at its worst.

Hey Yubaru, Those are 東京六大学, name for univiersities known for baseball.

Yes those schoole are privileged but not "top 6". Hosei, Meiji, Rikkyo are not that hard to get into. Kyoto and many other state universities are more privileged and respected.

We don't know if she was raped judging by the information in this article. I admit it's very likely. Maybe JT is withholding details to protect her dignity

立教大学 Ritsumeikan University

That’s a different university although very reputable.

St. Paul’s University or Rikkyo University.

I hope so, too. You're no longer with mommy and daddy. Welcome to the real world. My sister was arrested once for protesting while in university. She called my dad and told him that she was in jail for protesting. My dad's response was perfect. "Welcome to the real world. What are you going to do? You are responsible for your own actions." Luckily for her, the Mayor of that city freed the protesters while they were put on probation for a year.

I think in other countries, people that age would have graduated by then. I was just barely 22 when I graduated.

No longer true, demographiscs have seen to that, and even sub-par students can find a place at a once "reputable" private university - if the parents can afford it. Keio, Waseda and Todai are still top-tier. The others' stock has fallen, and the largest 2 of the remaining group are essentially diploma mills.

Like many universities in Japan.

“Don’t put yourself in the position where you can become a victim.”

I am not sure what it implies... don't get drunk ? don't go out with boys ? don't be a woman ?

what about making it, boys (maybe) learned a lesson the hard way : don't rape/ sexually assault your friends ?

Those punks need to get their yearly testicular exam.... forcefully... with a nailbat.

Keio is normally associated with Business, and yes, Rich Kids... it's expensive.

As for the rankings, the following site produces a list a bit different from that above.

You guys are too lenient.

They need to make posters of these guys' faces an plaster them all over campus, saying have you seen these sexual predators? And then when caught, have them go to classes wearing a sign that says, I am a sexual predator. Then after a month, expel them, then arrest them, the castration.

Then have them pay restitution.

Any chance you just forgot to include a trial in the above comment? Or are you of the opinion they don't even deserve one?

What a joke, these ugly losers who assume they can get any girls by stating which university they went to, or wearing the Keio shirt, funny.. that was perhaps 1980s Japan, not in the realistic standards of today.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Wasn't somebody just charged with sexual assault a few weeks back who was part of the same "Mr. Keio" contest? Or was it another school? Anyway, "I deny the charge because I was drunk" does NOT fly. Well, not in most countries. Hope they charge them all big time here.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

That is correct.

How can someone who's under arrest then go ahead and commit another similar crime... doesn't that sort of defeat the "Under Arrest" meaning ?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Our friend's son has been offered a place at Waseda with no need to take any entrance exams at all. Another friend's son got into Keio by being good at baseball. If your parents are rich even idiots can get admitted to these "top" private universities. I wonder if "Mr Keio" got in this way?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Smith, I read it as the guy who is already under arrest for the Yokohama assault has also been arrested for this assault.

Yes. I knew this sounded familiar.

"Why was she at karaoke with three boys?" Because they were her friends and she trusted them not to rape her. "Why did she drink so much that she passed out?" Because the boys egged her on to drink, fully knowing she would become incapacitated, enabling them to attack her. "Don't put yourself in the position where you can become a victim." I think you mean "don't ever be alone with men, because you can't depend on your friendship with them since men have the capacity to be rapists."

Or maybe we can teach young men not to be rapists. How about that?
