How did they even know gold was being transported? Was it being carried in a open view display?

I would hazard a guess, it would appear someone in the know tipped of the robbers. As with the cash robbers too. It's an insurance scam and a planned robbery. Can't don police uniform travel and plan in 30min. They knew where it was and at what time. The sale of precious metals seems a dubious business. Unregulated and lacking security, but as was discovered many years ago a high ranking LDP member on his death it was discovered he had a huge hord of gold hidden under the floor. So there is no incentives for things to be regulated by politicians.

Unfortunately, the Japanese population at large is subservient to those in uniform and acquiesce to almost anything....

Did they recover the gold?

From cataclysmic celestial events such as neutron star collisions, or so I hear. ;)

I giggled(^^)

Gogo

Where did the gold come from in the first place?

Pretty ballzy move - to impersonate police and get the victim to hand over the gold. Reminds me of the 300_million_yen_robbery story. The perp impersonated police, said there was dynamite on the delivery truck, got the keys from the driver and disappeared with the truck. Unsolved case! (Not like this one.)

Is that bar in the picture, 200 kg?

Probably just over 12 kg.

Robbed not long after purchasing gold by three men impersonating police officers. What are the chances, eh?

Blind obedience to authority is not beneficial.
