A gang of three men smashed a glass showcase at a pawn shop in Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture, on Monday, and stole 20 high-end watches worth 4.6 million yen.

According to police, the incident occurred at a Kantei Bureau pawnshop franchise just at around 7 p.m., TV Asahi reported. Police received a call from a male employee who claimed three men were smashing the showcase with a hammer. The employee was in the office preparing to close the store when he noticed security camera footage showing the suspects enter the shop and begin to smash the glass showcase.

There were no customers or other employees in the store at the time.

Police said all three men are about 170 centimeters tall and were wearing black hoodies.

20 watches, 4.6 million, that sounds like 230k each on average, hardly high-end.

Maybe I’m jaded but 20 watches for 4.6 million yen? Even one watch for 4.6 million yen isn’t really considered high end for most serious collectors. Hope the thieves aren’t Vietnamese!

One Patek can go for that.

I’ve never paid more than ¥45000 for a watch in my life. My watch goes scuba diving, compass, weather, mountain climbing and has world time, stopwatch etc. what is the point of these show off watches? Opps answered that…showing off…

Apple Watch 60,000yen.

Casio Protrek 30,000yen.

Casio G-Shock 18,000yen.

All you really need for watches.

Luxury watches only makes sense to go big for something collectible to raise in value.

They’ll be on craigslist, mercari or yahoo auctions in the coming months. Keep your eyes open for a bargain.

Why waste money on a rolex watch ( you ego trippers ), when a ' Timex watch ' does the same thing for a fraction of the price.

My watches are ¥100. The current one is three years old.

Cheap Chinese smartwatches can even be used as a phone and play videos etc. I wonder why they all pay moon prices for those brand watches which are mostly free of any functions other than showing the time. Of course I know them all too, but they are obviously unreachable right from the beginning, if you aren’t a bigger company boss or have inherited quite a sum. My first choice in that case would be a Meccanico dG N03 Titane by de Grisogono, a watch that won the public’s prize in 2009.

With all due respect, money is relative.

Some people buy things because whats nothing to them, is a lot or a waste to another. Buy Rolex if you please.

These guys are gonna get caught at some point. There's CC footage up the wazoo. And, everyone will be looking for those watches.

Looks like smash and grab clones that got their idea from perhaps watching Youtube videos of the same types of crimes committed in SF and LA. Hoodies and mask seem to be the attire of criminals when committing crimes
