3 more arrested in connection with unlicensed Roppongi club where man was beaten to death

Police said Thursday they have made three further arrests in relation to the Roppongi club Studio Gate where a man was beaten to death by a group of masked men wielding baseball bats in September. The total number of men arrested is 11, but none have been charged with the murder. Rather, they are charged with operating a club without a license.

Soon after the murder, the club -- then named Flower -- was closed, but owner Mikito Baba reopened it under the name Studio Gate on Sept 21. Police say that Baba did not apply for the appropriate license and arrested him and seven employees. A police spokesperson said that the club was also unlicensed at the time of the attack, NTV reported.

The three men arrested this week were also involved in running the club, police said.

Nobody has been arrested over the fatal beating.

I completely understand! The NPA has no idea who committed the murder, so they are focusing their efforts on a case they CAN solve, and that would be the absence of a license to operate a night club! Forget about the guy that died! R.I.P. dude!

they will get the killers, who have all fled overseas.

in the meantime, shut the maggots down if they don't have a license.

Murdering someone with baseball bats. Arrests = 0. Operating a dance club without a license. Arrests = 11.

What's wrong with this picture?

The police get graded according to the arrests linked to a murder. They dont have to arrest the actual murderer to keep a high arrest rate.

Except none of these arrests have anything to do with the murder. They involve the club opening and operating a club without a license to run a dance hall AFTER the murder.

I just don't comprehend the local police infatuation with arresting people for allowing dancing.

Its not a very old law as far as laws go, but one that was originally introduced to stop promiscuity amongst the young, Even though Soaps are illegal they are still covered under the same laws as "Discos" and must close at Midnight, The law even the police will admit is odd, but it does give them the power to actually be able to close you down for something or to put pressure on you if your bar or club has other problems that may cause them embarrassment or problems. They are probably wishing they had shut down Flower for illegal dancing before someone got murdered with a baseball bat.

Great investigation!!! Now check whether the club followed proper food and fire safty rules? Aha! and dont forget to check the staff holding valid licenses for their bicycles.

Gee what a shocker someone arrested in Roppongi for something.

Roppongi is a blight on Japan that needs a good washing. The place is filled with drugs, street walkers and thieves. Been there twice and each time was approached by vermin who wanted to sell me smack.

"The three men arrested this week were also involved in running the club, police said.

After arresting the management for letting people dance, the arrests are still targeting people unrelated to the real crime. I guess ARREST and BASEBALL BAT MURDER in the same sentence makes for good headlines for newspapers in Tokyo. One might think 'Hey they are on to something now!!!'

Absolutely... Don't try to apply any Common-Sense, Reasoning, Critical Thinking, or Rational Thought to any of the actions of the JCops or J-Laws, because you'll only end up pulling your hair out, because there is NO Logic or Rational Thinking involved in 80% of Japanese Laws...

It's like they watched 15 minutes of Law & Order, and took away an idea, but didn't bother the watch the rest of the story to see how it all worked together...

They've got the right idea, but wrong Laws, and Wrong way of going about it...

Operating a "Business" without a License isn't even a misdemeanor, In NY they would give you a warning, and if you came back again, they'd probably give you a Ticket. It's NOT an Arrest-able Offense...

Now if you are operating a "Wire-Transfer" service or a Bank... Now that's another matter, that's when the Fed's would get involved...

I'll explain to you JCops how you might legitimately go about pressuring these guys to roll-over on who did the killing.

So listen closely JCops, because I'm only going to say this once...

You do a surprise audit on all their financial records... (And that doesn't mean you publish it in the newspaper and TV that you're going to do a surpise Audit, hence the word,"Surprise!" ) Actually you Police don't even do it, you get someone from your Government, the accountants responsible for collecting taxes, and you might even accompany them, you don't do it yourself, you get expert "Accountants," and they go through all their financial records for a few years... Let's say 5 years, what-ever the statute is! And I would bet 100,000-yen that your going to find some extra income that they didn't pay tax on... Then you hand that information over to the prosecutors and they go after everyone involved for TAX Evasion..

Or is that too difficult for you to understand..? Maybe you don't want to arrest the Yakuza they are paying off... I'll bet, because you're sure find payments to organized crime members, and I'll be they didn't pay tax either...

See how easy it could be, the legal and common-sense way...!

Arresting them for violating an ordnance is the same as saying you're going to arrest my 13 year daughter for having a lemon-aid stand without a license... Laws written by kids, for kids...

It's trying to say that since the police can't find the murderers (i.e. they haven't turned themselves in yet), they'll run around like lost chickens and arrest anyone for anything even vaguely related to the murder.

LoL! Got it! Thanks.

Pure harassment. Can't find or touch the killers so lash out at anyone remotely related to the matter.

DevilsAssistant,

I have no idea what this article is trying to say.

Seven employees? Are these part-time workers who serve watery, over-priced drinks and have absolutely nothing to do with Mikito Baba's management style? Or chimpira?

So is the club that was unlicensed connected to the reason the man was killed?
