I hope they at least see some jail time because this was all teachers' fault. But also the Japanese education's bukatsu system. Where the history (or any) teacher is in charge of the basketball team even tho that said teacher doesn't know anything about basketball. If I remember correctly, they appointed one of the new teachers in charge of the group. Why was that? Was he an experienced backcountry skier or something like that?

Just to get a job as a backcountry tail guide, I've had to go through at least 80 hours of Wilderness First Aid, Avalanche Operations Lvl. 1 plus I'll need extensive experience in the backcountry, possibly shadowing other guides for free. And that is just to tail guide. How come they appoint teachers with no backcountry experience, to lead a group of high school students through Avalanche areas? Were they at least wearing beacons and probes and knew how to use them?

The whole thing could have been entirely preventable but they decided to ignore all associated risks and hazards, and warnings not to go.

Teachers were following the program, to have canceled it would have caused regrettable confusion......loss of face. Prosecution for following the rules seems harsh. A positive outcome would have the education system teach common sence and put in place basic standards for such precarious undertakings.

Climbing up snow mountains is better than staying home and doing line or playing Keitai games.

but rip, and I wish well to their families.
