Yup... kickink, punching and not feeding a 3-year old child is one way to stop them from crying. Great to see the woman being set free. So how long is she going to be given until they decide whether they will charge her at all?

Wow, how many times do I have to read stories like this before I disconnect the internet forever? I'm about to toss my computer into the river behind my house. Makes me sick, sick, sick... both individuals are total low-lifes... 21 and expecting her 3rd child? I really hope someone either educates this young woman or removes the children so they can grow up in a safe environment...

Wow!! Very ghetto like behavior. The mother and the boyfriend are unemployed. Which means they have alot of free time abusing the child. Children cry when they are not properly fed or properly loved and cared for. If she is not charged now. She (should be) will be charged in the future. She shouldn't have children. I hope the government steps in and have custody of the child. My friend observe this situation all the time. She is a nursery school teacher. She always see this type of behavior. What a moron. The excuse of "discipling a child" does not hold water either. At three years of age, children don't have the mental capacity to reason between what is right or wrong. As such, "disciplining" in this case is just another word for "abuse."

Point in case, if you took this chap overseas and subjected him to a similar regime (orders issued in a foreign language, etc.) the net result would be the same. He would understand (like a 3 year old) and would suffer the results. I just hope that the police in this case take a firm view with regard to discipling this chap.

Finally, what is it with some parents/guardians of children in this country. Young, unemployed and ignorant. This is a recipe for disaster as the current case points out.

I do fault the parents for their actions but where was family/social services? Also the Japanese police? What are they doing? Great work as always as we lose another youth to abusive parents!

I think things like this rarely happen in third world countries. It's the decadent countries where people are too involved in seeking fun and gratifying themselves to be bothered with taking care of children.

Timorborder, I don't think you give credit to three year olds and their ability. Talking from experience, I find that children of this age CAN be disciplined in certain fields; e.g to eat at the table, don't speak with your mouths full, put your hand over your mouth when coughing etc. Typically this takes patience, and a consorted effort by both parents over a period of time. That and the fact that kids of this age copy their parents behaviour in every way, it seems in this case that both parents were shocking role models and retorted to abuse to curb the childs 'disciplinary issues'.

Please define discipline. - Is it beating a child until it submits to the demands of the parents? Is it hitting a child repeatedly for making an uninformed choice? Or, is it pointing out what is wrong and educating the child to not behave in such a manner? - No person has the right to discipline another until they can discipline themselves. Nobody has the right to hit another. This stupid belief people have about hitting children as a form of discipline is so wrong in so many ways. If you hit a child for speaking with its mouth full, what does the child learn? - My father is an bumhole that will hit me? What a great lesson target!

A Ghetto is a section of a city occupied by a minority group who live there especially because of social, economic, or legal pressure.

So by this definition she is not ghetto or from the ghetto. It is a tragedy what happed to the little girl. Social services should take the rest of her kids away so that no other children get hurt.

This country needs a massive psychiatric therapy session..., i would like to recomend to the goverment, please take one or two weeks, but please find some psychiatrist and psychologist and check all the people as possible..., because "YOU" are getting really "MAD".

Lock her up, and she can have birth of her baby in jail. By the time trial will be listed and than hearing, baby will be older, and should be placed on fosters care. Father and mother should get life sentence and never sent free. Children can be disciplined with very simple methods and not with crimes act.

One wonders whether the natural father would have been so violent to the girl? I surmise not.

Another product of Japanese sex education I see. In other countries, women are at least given a choice; either protect yourself or risk the consequences. In Japan women are given the choice of killing your baby or giving up your professional life forever. Prevention doesn't seem to be a big thing here. Also hitting seems to be very common, because kids are learning it from somewhere, I see 3 year olds hitting their moms all the time and I never see the mom grab the kids hand with a strong grip, look them in the eyes, and say "STOP". Moms let the kids control them. This morning at the preschool I work at one of the new kids refused to come in, and actually ran down the steps and outside, and the mother was out there for at least 20 minutes talking to him, trying to "reason" with him!

Giving up a professional career? What did you have in mind? Isn't it more the case that the women are forced to work. I know of lots of ladies who wish they could get married and have kids and be a housewife rather than working outside. I know of more of this type than the type who want a professional career indefinitely. - And it is a matter of either and not both.

I see little kids abusing their mothers and I always think If I were the father and I knew about it the little brat would soon mend his ways. - My kids wouldn't dream of doing that.

It's so sad to see little toddlers crying because they want to be at home in familiar surroundings with their family and things rather than carted-off to a nursery or a kindergarten because the mother is forced to work outside the home. It's difficut for the little ones to understand that they are basically in-the-way as far as society is concerned, though they are of course loved as a member of the family.

Having kids is something which needs a mother at home in my opinion. But society has been engineered so that the children are more and more influenced by politics which wish to assume the role of parent and the biological parents are seen merely as people who feed and cloth them and raise them for the government.

Actually CMEANDU, the word "ghetto" has a longer history than that. The term for a poor area of a city is not the original use of the word. So, to say that someone is ignorant for mis-using the term, as theguy puts it, is ignorance itself. That of course is not to say memyselfandhim is not ignorant.

mindovermatter, it's sad but true and it's widespread in the rest of Asia too. I think it's to do with the idea of seeing children as property, which still persists to this day.

The only positive outcome of this story is that child 2 and soon to be born child 3 may have been spared the same fate.

Her 3rd kid shoud be immediately taken away from her or at least make sure that while she is in jail she can not get pregnant ever again!
