3 youths arrested for robbing pizza delivery boys

Police said Tuesday they have arrested three youths for robbing two pizza delivery boys in Tama and Hachioji in September.

According to police, the three suspects -- aged between 16 and 19 -- followed the two pizza delivery boys on their rounds. After making a number of deliveries, the 17-year-old part-time workers were forced off their bikes by the gang, TBS reported. The gang smashed lights on the motorbikes with metal bats and threatened the pizza delivery boys with a knife, police said.

Police said that one of the gang used to work part time at the pizza company. He was quoted as saying he and his friends needed money for fun.

tmarie it is how things are done in Japan. If you do not like it vote for someone who will make the changes you demand.

More than happy to when Japan allows long terms residence with PR to vote. Certainly wouldn't give up my passport for a Japanese one.

Yuri, I pointed out things "minors" are able to do in Japan. Do you think people who are considered to be children should be allowed to work full time, live on their own and get married? I don't. Lower the age to 13. I certainly the difference between right and wrong at that age. Did you not?! Are Japanese teenagers so immature that they don't?! I think they do which is why I think 20 is crazy. These "kids" know they can get away with it which is why they do it. Change it, arrest them and charge them and punish them like the adults they are.

You are aware that the Kobe kid who killed two people (I believe it was) and put a head on the school gates is out because he was a minor. You think he's sane and okay after a slap on the wrists? I don't. More violent crime being committed by "minors" and something needs to be done.

Yep you are correct, Japan lowered the age to 14 from 17 a few years back, so if you are under 14 you can't be arrested.

Hunger overtook them this could not be about money.

tmarie when is a child responsible all of the way for their actions. In America if a 13 or 12 year old kills someone they can go to jail for life. Some Americans want to lower the age some more like to 10, 8 6 or lower. Japan the age of full adult responsibility is 20. Do not worry these kids will spend some time in correctional rehab facility for kids.

About getting jobs, what jobs? The unemployment rate is rising and rising fast! As the sun sets on Japan Corp. Say hello to a new sort of feudal Japan but with the large Corp owners as lords and ladies.

That's pretty scary for the poor guys working late nights delivering pizza to pay for their uni or whatever it is. I think its really low ganging up on someone and using a weapon...

I hope the government begins to come down harder on this kind of action.

where is the proof?? these boys are probably innocent. could've been a coverup by the pizza FREAKS who pocketed the money and claimed they got robbed. happens a lot, especially pizza joints with foreigner delivery staffs.

@tajNOV

Gogogo, please re-read the headline. They were arrested.

It is a bad translation or lip service by the police, if you are under the age of 20 in Japan you can't be arrested, you can only be held for questioning.

Robbing pizza delivery boys and therefore delaying someone's pizza delivery should be a capital offense.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

In many bank robber movies, after some time, the robbers ask the police for some pizzas.

So, they couldn't get away with all the dough.

I hope they get sent to reform school, with no pizza on the menu.

Armed robbery, destruction of property, and vandalism ...3 to 5 years at least. If they are old enough to do adult crimes, they should be old enough to do adult time.

The price of pizza in this country is so high, that if these teen robbers planned it right, they could have become very rich very fast.

I hope they get sent to reform school, with no pizza on the menu.

Leonard Not going to happen unlike America we are not going to have any preteen and teen life prisoners. Worse execute them.

It amazes me how you can turn in a simple comment into an anti-Japanese comment and follow it up with an anti-American comment. I'm not American and I believe Japan needs to lower their age of what they consider an adult. If "kids" can live on their own and go to university, get married, not "have to be in school", have kids, work full-time... they are NOT minors.

That all being said, if they are considered minors here, charge their parents for not looking after their children properly.

"Can't be arrested they are minors."

Gogogo, please re-read the headline. They were arrested.

Stealing the money is one thing. Bashing in the bike is another. The were obviously showing off to each other and just out for kicks. Possibly earning rank in the bosozoku with an eye to becoming a chimpira (not realizing that the downsizing in that industry has been just as bad as in any other.)

I hope they get slapped good and hard, especially the oldest one.

When I was 18 I was mugged when I was on pizza delivery. It was pretty scary and I never would have thought of it happening considering the area I was in, it didn't seem like the kind of place. Needless to say are started carrying a gun with me when I was working from then on. No worries.

Want money? Then a JOB!!!!

Yes, this story reminds me of a recent cartoon in The New Yorker. It shows a bank robber exiting a bank empty-handed and approaching his cohort, a driver patiently waiting in the getaway car. The robber leans into the window and says, "You'll never believe this but if we just work there 35 hours a week, they'll give us the money!.

I remember this happening all the time back when I was living in Brazil. Only they didn't steal the money, they stole the pizzas. Some hungry people in the favelas....: (

Gotta feel sorry for these criminals to have to sink this low and rob 2 pizza boys. just so pathetic. Hope they catch them and make them deliver pizzas for as long as it takes to pay for the damages and money stolen.

I agree with Mirai/ They are old enough to work so why not work.

For such a civilized country I think Japan is behind the time about becoming an adult at 20. Mostly for crimes committed and being tried as minors. I do respect Japan for making all things legal at same age (20 for alcohol and smoking). Much like many other countries in the world, in both America and Japan 18 and 19 year olds are able to live on their own, work full time, go to college, drive a car, etc (however, in Japan parents are still responsible until they turn 20).

Personally, at the very least 18 and 19 year olds should be held accountable as adults for the crimes they commit. In fact I think I think even at the age of 16 people should be tried as adults. When my daughter turns 16 and IF she commits a crime I would fully expect her to be held accountable for her actions.

I wonder if in their minds this is just like bullying. Their penalties will not be any harsher than that of a case of IJIME. Would it be too much of a stretch to hope they get jail time?? It might be good for their future development.

Safety Japan! In the states, they just kill the pizza delivery guys. Some cities have "no delivery zones" where they simply don't deliver after dark.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

What a pack of pathetic cowards. Want money? Then a JOB!!!!

7 ( +10 / -3 )

I wonder how much money they got?

Premeditated robbery that could of easily led into assault. Even if caught being under 20 not much will happen...

When will Japan change the legal age of becoming an adult to 18?
